Deep Silver has announcd that Dead Island: Riptide, the sequel to its previous zombie-apocalypse RPG, will be getting a special edition exclusive to North America. This edition will be a free upgrade for people who preorder the game early. In addition to the regular game, it will contain a pack of exclusive weapon mods, a digital strategy map, and a unique character skin. However, even though all of these additional features are digital upgrades, Deep Silver says that supplies are "limited" and not everyone who preorders will necessarily get the special edition content.

In addition to the news about the preorder bonus, the publisher also unveiled Riptide's release dates. It will be released in North American stores on April 23, 2013, and will follow up with a European release on April 26.

Dead Island: Riptide continues the story where the previous game left off, letting players take control of the original four main characters once again as they try to survive the attacks of a zombie horde. It also features a new playable character.
