The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf

The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf, the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 version of the well-received PC RPG The Witcher, was officially revealed last week. The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf's developer, CD Projekt RED, has already said the game will not be just a straight port, but how different will it really be?

First of all, the game has already been in development for ten months. The motivation behind the development of The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf was to enable as many gamers as possible to experience The Witcher. When CD Projekt RED said it was rebuilding the game, they meant it. Many animations have been re-motion-captured. Enemy AI will be more aggressive, with enemies having more attacks and defenses at their disposal. CD Projekt RED is aiming to make the game more action-oriented by giving players more control over each of Geralt's actions, such as being able to choose when he evades, lunges, or ripostes. In the PC version of The Witcher, defensive manuvers were not directly controlled by the player. According to Jakub Stylinski, Senior Designer at CD Projekt RED, The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf will also include "a new interface, redesigned boss battles, new music, a smattering of new models, and a redesigned character development system."

CD Projekt RED is planning for The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf to display in 720p, and DLC is already being planned. CD Projekt RED is obviously not going for a quick cash grab here. Do not expect The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf to be prematurely rushed out the door; it is currently slated for release sometime in Fall 2009.
