Game Watch reports that the Tales series' standard cooking system is present and accounted for in Tales of the Abyss. By learning recipes and finding the proper ingredients players can create their own food items, which can be put in bags for use later as healing items. Characters learn recipes by talking to certain townspeople or by completing certain events. Ingredients can be found just about anywhere: in towns, in treasure chests within dungeons, or even from defeating certain enemies. The more times a character uses a certain recipe, the better he or she gets at it. Once a character is skilled enough, he or she can make unique new additions to the recipe.
In addition to the cooking system, another new character has been revealed. Head of the Lorelai Order, 14-year-old Ion is a powerful prophet with a "nice guy" demeanor. His outward appearance hides an iron will which allows him to keep a tenuous peace between the two kingdoms Markt and Kimraska.
The game's release remains set for December 15 in Japan.
