Bandai Namco released some new details and screenshots for its upcoming action RPG Code Vein. In addition to some information about the combat system, the company highlighted the character creation system and introduced two new characters.

As previously revealed, the game is set in a post-apocalyptic world where surviving humans are known as Revenants and have special powers known as Gifts that come at the cost of an intense bloodlust. Revenants who succumb to the bloodlust become part the mindless cannibalistic force wandering the world known as the Lost. Code Vein's Gift system grants Revenants up to eight different Gifts to use in combat. These are activated by spending Ichor points and can provide special attacks or temporary boosts to attack or defence. Other Gifts can also take the form of passive boosts provided by items and equipment.

Players will have a stamina gauge that is used by any actions such as attacks, evading, dashing, and draining. Draining allows Ichor points to be refilled and can also increase the maximum number available. Special drains activated under certain conditions can also cause serious damage to enemies. Combat also features a Focus system that allows players to boost their abilities temporarily. It is designed to be most effective when surrounded by multiple enemies, giving players cause to put themselves in dangerous situations by letting them negate attacks or throw enemies in the air. Players will be joined by an AI companion, who can attack enemies, enhance the player's skills, or share health as needed.

Finally, in terms of characters, players will create their own protagonist, choosing the gender, body type, hair styles, and voice. Two newly-revealed characters they will meet are Louis and Io. Louis is a young leader aiming to help Revenants overcome their bloodlust, looking for Blood Beads to use as a substitute for human blood. He uses a one-handed sword for swift attacks. Io, meanwhile, is female Revenant with no memory of her past, but who has a great knowledge of the final human stronghold of Vein.

Code Vein is an action RPG being developed by the team behind the God Eater series. Code Vein is planned for a worldwide release sometime in 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
