Nippon Ichi Software needed little motivation to announce a sequel to its naughty RPG and revealed Criminal Girls 2 is coming to Japan. The game is a sequel to Criminal Girls, which was originally released for PlayStation Portable in Japan in 2010, with a PlayStation Vita port titled Criminal Girls: Invite Only released in North America and Europe in February 2015. The original game and its port were developed by Imageepoch, with Nippon Ichi apparently taking development of the sequel in-house following Imageepoch's closure.

The series sees players put in charge of the rehabilition of a group of seven female deliquents, taking the girls through various dungeons and turn-based battles, with character growth featuring "Motivation" minigames. The sequel is said to feature more strategic battles and fiercer motivation events.
