King Story

If the latest game announcement is anything to go by, there's a certain king with a story to tell. King Story is the appropriately named RPG that's now heading to the Wii.

The game will be published by Marvelous Interactive and will be executive produced by Yasuhiro Wada, the head of Marvelous and the creator of the Harvest Moon series. Most of the development work is being handled by two companies: Cing, which most recently worked on the DS adventure games Trace Memory and Hotel Dusk: Room 215; and Townfactory, a company largely comprised of former Level 5 staffers. King Story's director is Yoichi Kawaguchi, who was the main programmer for Dragon Quest VIII and an event programmer for Dark Cloud 2. The producer, Yoshiro Kimura, worked on the cult PlayStation anti-RPG Moon as well as the PS2 kissing simulator Chulip and survival horror Rule of Rose.

Wada seems to have assembled some heavy-hitters for the game's artistic design as well. Serving as character designer is Hideo Minaba, who worked as art director for Final Fantasy IX and Final Fantasy XII and map designer for Final Fantasy Tactics. Minaba's other current project is Hironobu Sakaguchi's DS RPG, ASH. The role of monster designer, on the other hand, goes to Kazuyuki Kurashima, who was a character designer for the obscure Square SNES RPG Live a Live before handling character and monster design for Super Mario RPG and contributing some game design to Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.

The game's website can be found here, though there's currently little other than some concept art. The game is scheduled for release in Japan in 2008. As the latest issue of Famitsu contains more information on the game, check back for more details later.
