Amidst fighting other top-sellers of 2005, the latest installment of Square Enix's Final Fantasy series came out on top at the annual PlayStation Awards ceremony that took place on July 25th in Tokyo. Final Fantasy XII received the esteemed double-platinum award, in recognition for over 2 million sales along with other notable RPGs.

Kingdom Hearts 2, the sequel to the successful Square Enix and Disney hybrid, won the platinum award, which recognizes games with over a million sales. Other RPGs like Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus and Namco's Tales of the Abyss were honored with the gold award that acknowledges sales to and above 500,000.

The PlayStation Awards is an annual event hosted by Sony Computer Entertainment of Japan. The show distinguishes top selling Japanese titles from the previous year and awards developers with cash prizes. Double-platinum titles get 2 million yen, while platinum and gold are granted one million and 500,000 respectively.
