In a recent media report it was stated that Square Enix is developing a sequel to the online game title Final Fantasy XI and that it would be released on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows Vista. The company has now commented that neither such an announcement nor any plans for a sequel have been made.

However, at the moment Square Enix is developing a completely new MMORPG for next-generation platforms, as they announced back in May 2005. Details of the title and its platform compatibility still remain in the dark. As for Final Fantasy XI, Square Enix will continue to release expansion packs and perform version updates.
