RPG giant Square Enix has made it crystal clear that Taito will likely not be the company's final acquisition. In fact, at the Reuters Asia Technology and Telecoms Summit, Yoichi Wada, the president of Square Enix remarked, "Taito is not the last of our acquisitions." Despite Taito being a game-developing company, Wada says that he's more interested in acquiring blog and auction website firms. Reasons behind this sudden change in gameplan were not disclosed, though Wada did add: "What we are doing is creating new channels, and elements for constructing such new channels is what we're trying to bring together."

Even though Square Enix has some big corporate plans brewing, the company still plans to take things one step at a time. The first order of business is remodeling Taito into a more efficient subsidiary. "There are lots of skeletons in the Taito closet," commented games analyst Hiroshi Kamide at the summit. The goal is to get Taito's profit margin up from the current 3.4 percent to 20 percent.
