Square and WonderSwan Sitting in a Tree
Square

Square has dusted off six of its classic games and scheduled them all for a remake. Unfortunately, for North American gamers, these remakes are being created for Bandai's WonderSwan Color, available only in Japan.

On deck for release is one title well known to North American RPG fans, a remake of the Game Boy RPG Makaitoushi SaGa, also known as Final Fantasy Legend. Also included in Square's WonderSwan plans are a number of titles previously released exclusively in Japan. These include the Famicom RPG Final Fantasy III; Hanjuku Eiyuu (Half-Cooked Hero), the Super Famicom egg-warrior battle simulation game; the Super Famicom RPGs Front Mission and Romancing SaGa; and a port of Dice de Chocobo, a Monopoly-esque board game included on Square's Chocobo Collection.

Currently, none of these games has been given an exact release date, although Hanjuku Eiyuu and Romancing SaGa are scheduled for release this December with Makaitoushi SaGa arriving sometime in the winter of 2001. The remaining games have been relegated to the nebulous release date of 2002. With WonderSwan Color unlikely to grace North American shores, gamers interested in playing these games will just have to pray for Square to jump on the Game Boy Advance bandwagon.
