Ubi Soft Doing Grandia 2 Right

Publisher Ubi Soft will be delivering the American version of Grandia 2 later this year, and they have promised that the voice-over job be respectable. RPGamers all over North America can now breathe a sigh of relief.

According to online reports, the same group that produced the voice work for Konami's much-lauded Metal Gear Solid is in charge of Grandia 2's voice-over work. If track record is any indication, then Grandia 2's production values will be something to behold.

Ubi Soft is firmly proclaiming a December 2000 release date, and is rumored to be 30 to 60 percent finished with the game's speedy English translation. Keep in mind: this game hasn't even been released in Japan yet.

Ubi Soft has released info regarding the storyline, as well. Grandia 2 begins as the game's main character, Ryudo, is sent to watch over a young priestess named Elena during her involvement in a mysterious ritual. Catastrophe strikes as the ritual begins, and Ryudo must come to Elena's rescue. Through the course of the game, Ryudo finds himself caught between the forces of good and evil; resentful of the heroic role thrust upon him, he must fulfill his destiny and protect those whom he despises.

Ubi Soft certainly seems to be doing right by the Grandia license, as the pieces appear to be falling firmly into place. Keep your browsers pointed to RPGamer for any upcoming details on Grandia 2, which is shaping up to be the first must-have Dreamcast RPG.
