Even More Hardware News from Nintendo
    Nintendo announced hardware alliances for the Dolphin yesterday. The company has licensed the 1T-SRAM technology from MoSys for use by ArtX in a graphics processor being developed for Dolphin. NEC will fabricate the chip using a 0.18-micron embedded-DRAM process. ArtX has not yet revealed how much embedded processor, but MoSys claims that up to 128 Mbits of 1T-SRAM can be embedded in logic devices. The MoSys memory cell has the same structure as a DRAM.

    In a language the rest of us understands, it means that the memory for the graphic processor will be better, smaller, and faster then the current memory used in today's Personal Computers.

    Nintendo has released more specs on their next handheld. The current working title is Game Boy Advance, but Nintendo insists that the final name will not. Here are the official stats released so far:

  • CPU: Memory embedded 32-bit RISC CPU
  • LCD: Reflective TFT Color LCD
  • Display Size: 40.8mm x 61.2mm
  • Resolution: 240 x 160 pixels
  • Maximum colors simultaneously: 65,000
  • Size: Approximately (HxWxD) 80 x 135 x 25mm
  • Weight: Approximately 140g
  • Power Supply: 2 AA Alkaline batteries
  • Battery life: 20 hours continuous play
  • Launch date: August 2000 in Japan, Christmas 2000 in North America and Europe
