THQ Nordic has released a new trailer for Piranha Bytes' ELEX. This trailer gives the backstory of the world of the game, the post-apocalyptic planet of Magalan.

Once a proud civilization, the planet of Magalan is hit by a meteor that scours the planet, leaving ruin in its wake. From the ashes rise three factions: the Bersekers, the Clerics, and the Outlaws. The conflict between these groups is spurred on by a lack of resources, none more so than the elemental stones known as Elex, which were left behind by the meteor. Displaying properties never before seen on Magalan, Elex is wanted by the factions for various intentions, including the development of advanced technologies and magic.

However, reliance on Elex very often leads to addiction, potentially degrading the addict into a feral creature. Those who resist the addiction are known as the Albs and their control of Elex provides the possibility of wiping out the other factions. Players will control a lone Alb sent on a solo mission ahead of a full-scale attack.

Under development by the studio behind the Gothic and Risen series, ELEX is an open-world action RPG set to release in 2017. The game will be available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
