Deus Ex: Mankind Divided

Deus Ex: Human Revolution's protagonist, Adam Jensen, is well liked amongst certain staff members, who were more happy to hear of his return in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One in 2016. RPGamer's Zack Webster got the chance to watch a demonstration of Mr. Jensen in action.

Another hands-off demonstration, but another sequel where easy points of comparison can be made. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided takes place two years after the ending of Human Revolution where augmented people have become ostracized and openly oppressed. Adam Jensen now works for Interpol as a double agent, being sent on missions around the world while looking for a way to find the mysterious forces truly responsible for the events of the first game and hold them accountable.

The meat of the demo involved Jensen hunting down those believed to responsible for a train station bombing and acted as a means to show off some of the new combat and stealth features of the game. Mankind Divided definitely seems to a sequel in the traditional sense: the same, but more. In this case, it may be for the better. Additional options have been added for both stealth and combat that may help non-lethal runs more viable and interesting, such as the new Tesla augmentation, which fires a stunning charge that can subdue up to four enemies in close proximity. Meanhwile, the Icarus Dash acts as a short speed boost that can be used both vertically and horizontally, opening up more mobility options for getting around the game's maps. The dash can also be used to bash enemies. Ranged hacking is now possible with the right upgrades and the famous blades from Human Revolution can now be thrown or even set as an exploding trap.

Straight combat also has some new additions to it, though seemingly less than other areas. Guns can now be loaded with different types of ammo, from EMP bullets that take out electronic things to armored piercing rounds effective against machines, meaning they can now be used effectively in different situations. The biggest change to open combat is the Shield augmentation, which surrounds Jensen with a nanomachine shield that aborbs bullet impact and decreases damage taken, probably the most directly confrontational augmentation outside of the wrist rocket.

Due to time constraints, we didn't get to see the full demo, but from what we saw Mankind Divided looks to offer plenty more options for the player and bigger levels to play in. There may be a slight concern that the game may become too easy given the number of options, but the final game will definitely be far more conservative with just how many of these abilities the player can use at once. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is planned to arrive sometime in 2016.
