BioWare's most recent announcement puts the brakes on conspiracy theories that Mass Effect 3's ending was overly vague in order to sell later DLC. The company will release a free downloadable Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut, which will add extra cinematics and epilogue scenes to the conclusion of the game.
The Extended Cut will not change Mass Effect 3's ending, but will expand upon and clarify the events that occur at the end of Commander Shepard's journey. Executive Producer Casey Hudson notes that the new ending scenes should feel more personalized for each player, so the company appears to have responded to criticism that the game's final scenes failed to reflect the many choices that players had made through the Mass Effect trilogy. The Extended Cut will be available this summer.
