Just five days after their April 22 release, Pokémon Diamond/Pearl have already sold over 1 million copies in the United States. No previous Pokémon games, aside from the original Red and Blue, have sold faster. Since the games' launch in Japan on September 28, 2006, Japanese gamers have purchased over 5 million copies.

With pre-orders of half a million and a continued demand for the titles, Diamond and Pearl are already being cited as candidates for two of the United States' top-selling games of 2007. The thousands in attendance at the launch event in New York further demonstrated the continued popularity of the Pokémon franchise. Worldwide sales of all the Pokémon games now total over 155 million copies.
