The Fake Ted Woolsey Presents the Real Strugarden!
04.01.2004

TED WOOLSEY
TRANSLATOR

Strugarden

Heya folks! It's me, Ted Woolsey! You know, that guy who translated some of your favorite games, like Breath of Fire, Secret of Mana, and Final Fantasy VI, just to name a few. Yeah, that's me! I'm working here at RPGamer now on the side; if you want to know more about it, I suggest you check out my new-fangled staff bio. It's got the whole story (well, maybe not the whole story) etched out in not-so-exacting detail for your reading pleasure. However, I am not here to talk about myself! I am here to talk about a game that should have been covered before, but due to understaffing (which I am, of course, here to alleviate) it has sat on the shelf for about half a month! Well, let's get this bad boy goin' here!

Strugarden is a very bright, very happy-looking MMORPG. This game, developed by FromNetworks, Inc. and published by Sammy, is currently undergoing a closed beta test, but from what information we've been able to snatch together, we can say quite a few things about this little ticker! First off, we know that you will get to choose from two different types of characters - guy humans, and girl humans. But, you will get to customize their appearance to some great degree. However, not everything you play with will be human! No no no, for you will be able to have a pet or three follow you around doing various things to help you out. Good bunny!

Now, I'm not really sure how they do this, but battles actually take place on very limited tile grids. Limited in the space provided, that is, because you move around on them, and the amount of space you get depends on how many characters appear. Hmm, maybe it isn't so hard to get. Well, in any case, that's how they do it! The developers have promised us that the multiple user interface is fluid and very compatible, so strategies like "Fight and Heal" will never become a floozie.

The bright and colorful fantasy world of Strugarden puts you in one of four warring nations. In this nation, you can help out by allocating resources and multitasking. Oh wait, not office politics! Games, yes. You can collect food, minerals, and lumber to help out the greater good, or you can beat up some whimsical monsters to help yourself! You'll most likely start out as a retainer for your lord or vassal or what have you.

Now, for all of you who are just dripping with excitement for this game, there's a bit of sad news - there hasn't been any confirmation for a worldwide release! On top of that, both the initial price and monthly price are still great mysteries to us. I, for one, am excited about this project, so I'll be sure to keep track of what's happening with Strugarden. Well, gosh, I might even have a hand in the translation! Who knows, right?

Have a nice day, all!
