Torment: Tides of Numenera

Techland Publishing has released a new video focusing on the combat of Torment: Tides of Numenera. The multitude of options present in combat scenarios are detailed, including non-violent combat options and how the game handles death.

Abilities in the game, including the offensive ones, are dictated by three stats: Might, Speed, and Intellect. Using experience to increase these betters the odds of landing relevant abilities and attacks. Experience can also be used to gain new abilities. After meeting certain requirements, a character's class will go up a Tier of power, unlocking new class exclusive abilities.

Then there are Cyphers, one-time use items of immense power that can assist in combat in different ways, such as summoning temporary allies from other dimensions to performing powerful situational effects. However, carrying too many Cyphers at once gives penalties to a character and even has the chance to be overcome by the presence of too much nearby energy and explode.

Finally, upon death, characters are brought to the Castoff's Labyrinth. Located deep within the mind of the player, the labyrinth will be home to numerous subplots, opportunities to increase in power, and the method of bringing the player back to life.

Torment: Tides of Numenera is the spiritual successor to Planescape: Torment and is the first game to be made using Monte Cook's Cypher System ruleset, based in the Ninth World of Numenera. The game will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on February 28, 2017.
