German developer Laughing Machines has launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for its pixel-art action RPG UnDungeon, with the campaign being supported by Square Enix's Collective service. The game is inspired by classic RPGs and roguelikes and is being developed for PC, Mac, and Linux, though PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PlayStation Vita versions are being considered as stretch goals.

In UnDungeon, players control one of seven Heralds and go on a journey to help repair the world following a cataclysmic event known as The Shift. The Shift causes a rift in the multiverse that merges seven parallel worlds together. The Heralds appeared just after the Shift occurred in different parts of the world, each carrying an artifact called the Core. This artifact does not allow its bearer to die, resurrecting them each time they fall but changing the surrounding world when it does so. The Heralds feel a desire to reach a certain part of the world where the full power of the Core will be revealed.

Players move their character around a procedurally-generated world divided into various regions where they can communicate, trade, or fight with other inhabitants. If they fall, the Core's resurrection power means they are put on a fresh planet and have to begin their quest or exploration again. Combat in the game is real-time and fast-paced, with each non-movement action using up energy points to prevent excessive button-mashing. The game attempts to emulate realistic physics with projectiles, debris, and explosions.

Laughing Machines is looking for €50,000 in funding by February 13, 2017. Those who pledge at least €15 will receive a digital copy of the game as part of their backer rewards, though at the time of writing a limited number of €10 tiers are still available.
