Torment: Tides of Numenera

The people at inXile Entertainment previously announced that they were working on a new game in the spirit of Planescape: Torment, and now it seems they are ready for the next big step in that game's development. The company has launched a new Kickstarter project for the newly titled Torment: Tides of Numenera, asking fans for $900,000 in order to get the game made. As of the writing of this article, those fans have pledged more than $600,000 within the first few hours of the project going live. With 30 days still remaining for more pledges, it is very unlikely that this project will fail to meet its goal.

While Torment: Tides of Numenera is intended to be a story-driven game in the same vein as Planescape: Torment, it is not a sequel to the older game in any form, and instead takes place in a new setting created for former D&D designer Monte Cook's new tabletop RPG. While inXile hasn't given many details about how Tides of Numenera will actually play, the Kickstarter page provides far more information on the setting and the themes of the story than would fit in this article.

Currently, inXile is planning to release Tides of Numenera in December 2014. It will be released DRM-free on PC, Mac, and Linux platforms, and will also be available on Steam.
