Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment has announced an upcoming RPG based on the Lord of the Rings franchise, titled Lord of the Rings: War in the North. It will be an action RPG with an emphasis on online cooperative multiplayer gameplay, and promises to have a mature focus in terms of its storyline and portrayal of battles. War in the North is being developed by Snowblind Studios for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It is expected to release in 2011.

Set in both familiar and previously unseen areas of J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth, War in the North allows players to form their own Fellowship of up to three people and join in the fight against Sauron's minions. It will feature extensive character customization, many multiplayer options, and upgradeable weapons, skills, and special abilities.
