Square Enix has announced that its action RPG, Nier, will release on April 27, 2010, for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in North America. It will launch April 23 in Japan and April 24 for Europe. Nier is set in a decaying world beset by plague and dark monsters. The player controls Nier, who seeks a cure for his plague-infected daughter.

Armed with powerful swords and armor as well as magical abilities, Nier will fight through hosts of beasts in order to learn the truth behind the problems faced by his world and his family. Square Enix states that Nier takes the company in a new direction, merging action-based combat with a mature narrative. When the game arrives in April, Square Enix fans will have the chance to decide what they think of this new kind of offering from the company.
