Earlier today in Tokyo, Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) announced that the PlayStation 3 is now set to launch simultaneously in Japan, North America and Europe in early November 2006. SCEI plans for a strong launch with a one million unit monthly production capacity along with what it says will be "a strong and attractive lineup of PS3 titles."

SCEI also announced some of the final specifications of the system including the incorporation of the Blu-ray Disc, which will have a 50 GB (dual layer) storage capacity. The PS3 will also be compatible with both standard and high-definition TVs. Additionally, SCEI made mention of the PS3’s ability to connect to a high-speed broadband network through Gigabit Ethernet.

This will be the second time a console has been launched concurrently across the three regions, Sony seemingly following suit with its competitors. The first time a console was launched in this manner was back in November 2005 with the launch of the Xbox360.
