Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana 2 Gust recently released details concerning their upcoming sequel Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana 2. The game will feature a dual scenario system, similar to that of Suikoden 3, where the story of the hero and heroine are told in separate instances. You can control both characters separately, allowing you two different view points of the same story.

Feld and Wisey are inhabitants of the world “Eden,” which is one side of a dual world known as “Eden Velkhide.” Both Feld and Wisey are orphans and were raised and taught alchemy together. On the day that they are scheduled to graduate and become full-fledged alchemists, a massive earthquake strikes causing a holy temple to crumble and disappear before the two young alchemist's eyes. On their way back to the castle to report what had occurred, Feld is stopped by a mysterious voice and a sword that appears out of thin air. Taking the sword, Feld feels himself suddenly filled with mana. Upon reaching the castle, Feld and Wisey discover that half of the world of Eden has been destroyed by the earthquake. Wisey is then given the task of using her alchemy to help repair the damage, and Feld is sent to the sealed “Velkhide Gate.” The sword he received reacts, and the gate flings open, sending Feld into the world of Velkhide.

The story is broken up into chapters that alternate between Feld’s adventures in Velkhide and Wisey’s work in Eden. Feld’s story will revolve on your typical adventure RPG qualities, such as exploring fields and dungeon crawling, while Wisey’s part of the story revolves more around creating various items. The two storylines weave together, Feld finding item recipes or needing various items that he cannot find in dungeons or Wisey will need ingredients that she cannot find in Eden, so she’ll ask Feld to fetch them for her.

The battle system of Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana 2 is similar to the Cost Turn Battle system that was featured in the first Atelier Iris. There are no turns, instead, every action has a speed and the commands you input change your characters overall speed. Manipulate your commands correctly and you can pull off lighting quick combos and take your opponent down fast.

While working with Wisey you will focus mainly on item creation. Combining various ingredients will produce different items. Wisey is able to infuse different elements into the combination to produce items of a less or greater power.

Aside from the two main characters, two new characters have been listed, Noin, an 18 year old girl who is a member of the anti-Silvalesta Empire resistance group known as “Slimshield.” She appears to be cute and harmless but she is a really powerful melee fighter. She finds a lost and confused Feld and takes him along with her on her journey. Also mentioned is Iris, a shy six year old girl who lives in the castle in Eden. Once she gets to know Wisey, she opens up and acts like a normal, rambunctious child. She loves watching Wisey perform alchemy.

Through out Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana 2 you will encounter various spirit entities. One of the spirits you’ll meet is Fausta, a cute little critter who is in charge of healing. It also tends to have a mischievous streak every so often. Then there is Ziftos, the spirit of Poison. Plants is another mana wandering the planet. She loves flowers and any type of green things. She is the spirit of tress and water.

Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana 2 is slated for a May release in Japan. There has been no word as to if Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana 2 will see a North American release.
