Snowblind Studios has announced that its upcoming title Champions of Norrath: Realms of Everquest will feature live voice chat during online play, by way of the Playstation 2's USB headset. Just like Socom: US Nevy Seals, this means the game will require a broadband connection to play online.
Sony Online Entertainment's Michael Lustenberger described the voice chat as "the final piece of the puzzle with Champions," and further noted that, "[vocal communication is] the one feature that has been most requested in the game and we are pleased to announce its inclusion. With the addition of voice chat, we believe Champions is now far and away the leader in its genre."
Obviously, the new feature will eliminate the need for common online conversation tools such as "lol" and "omg", as teammates will now be able to plainly hear each other laughing and swearing, rather than type or read a description of the situation. Champions of Norrath: Realms of EverQuest is scheduled to arrive in North American retail stores in February of 2004.
