The Baldur's Gate games have been garnering more than respectable sales since their respective releases, and now they are raking in some awards as well. Interplay has announced that the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences has tapped two of Black Isle's offerings for Game of the Year awards for 2001.

Baldur's Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal, developed by BioWare, was named as the PC Role Playing Game of the Year, while Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, which was developed by Snowblind Studios for the PS2, took the Console Role Playing Game of the Year honors.

"We are honored to have received the prestigious 'Role Playing Game of the Year' award in both the console and computer game categories," said Herve Caen, Interplay's president and CEO. "Yet again, Black Isle Studios has proven that their brand is a success as demonstrated by the market share we hold in the RPG genre and numerous awards won in the RPG category. Interplay will continue to focus on the Role Playing Game genre and strive to deliver the quality titles that gamers and the industry have come to expect."

Those lacking PS2 hardware can look for BG: DA to show up on both the Xbox and GameBoy Advance in the near future.
