The company behind the yearly Game Developer's Conference (GDC) has announced an outreach program geared to attracting high school students to careers in the gaming industry. The International Game Developers Association (IGDA) launched a nationwide outreach program recently to provide information to high school students, teachers, and parents in order to assist them in gaining entry to the game development field. Letters will be sent to over 10,000 high schools across the United States, and posters will also be distributed as part of the program. There will also be a website provided by IGDA, complete with information on various career paths within the industry, interviews with professionals in the field, and links to a wide array other resources to set students down the path towards game development.

"Certainly, one of the most prevalent questions of our industry is how to break in," said Jason Della Rocca, IGDA's program director. "We are here to help students develop skills, make informed decisions, and improve their chances of making it. As this multibillion dollar industry continues to grow, we simply need better educated newcomers."

On a related note, IGDA will hold its 2002 Game Developers Conference starting Tuesday, March 19th, and running through the Saturday of that week.
