A wise old man who longs for adventure and joins you as a friend and advisor as soon as he gets the chance to. King Granseal The King of your home town and father of Elis. He was possessed near the start of the game, but Astral saved him. King Galam King of Galam, a town nearby Granseal. He is possessed later and becomes a follower of Zeon. Princess Elis Daughter of King Granseal, she was kidnapped by Zeon and King Galam. Her father wants you to find her. The Trader The man who works in all of the shops, without him you'd never be able to fight the Powers of Darkness! The Priest You'll find him in just about every church in the game. He'll heal you comrades, save your position in the game and also promote members of the Force. Oddler A young, blind boy who is found in Polca Village after the disturbance at Mount Volcano. He tags along with the force until you meet Creed. There could be more to him than meets the eye... Creed An ex-Greater Devil, Creed is now retired. He's got a collection of miniature people which you'll join for a while. He can contact the Evil Spirit to aid you and also gives you a choice of four people to join the Force. Later in the game he'll act as a priest for you. Goddess Mitula The Goddess of Rune, she lives in Tristan at "Mitula Shrine" and is keeper of the Ground Orb. She'll help you throughout the game. God Volcanon The apparently cold-hearted God of Rune, he lives at Mt. Volcano, just north of Polca Village. He has a major grudge against the ground-dwelling people of Granseal. :::Greater Devils::: Taros Not so much a Devil as a guardian, he protects the Taros Shrine and all within it. To win the caravan away from him you must defeat him, and only a Hero wielding the Achilles Sword can do that... Zalbard The weakest of the Greater Devil's, you'll fight him at Mitula's Shrine. He's got a powerful Bolt spell, so watch out! Cameela To get to the Nazca Ship you'll have to get past her and her Iron Ball! She's a master of disguise... Red Baron Leader of the Galam Army, and loyal to his King, the Red Baron Lemon became a blood-thirsty vampire under the control of Devils. His armour is red from the blood of those he has killed and he wields the Dark Sword... Geshp The ugly devil shows up all over the place, and is incredibly strong for his small stature. Lord Odd Eye The truth is revealed... and he is 'really rather evil'. Once a promising man, his life is thrown away in a rather tear-jerking moment. King Galam The King of Galam, one of Granseal's old allies. Possessed by the Gizmo which threatened King Granseal he has become one of Zeon's strongest followers. Zeon The King of the Devils himself. His powers are locked inside the Jewel of Evil and he himself is locked away in Arc Valley, but his strength is returning and his soul desire is to rule the world... :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: 3) Monsters List :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Note: Some spells listed may be due to a magical weapon. To get their total level, simply add their level at Promotion to their current level, so if my Bowie was promoted at level 24, and is currently level 26, his total level is 50 and in 5 levels time he will learn Bolt 4. For Sorcerer's and Ninja's Spells the level simply refers to their current level, as they start afresh with new spells when promoted. Any levels gained before promotion have no effect on their new spells. N/A means that the character already has it, ?? means I don't know what the total level must, -- means that the spell doesn't go up to that level. This means that the enemies can only use magic on one of your players at a time, unless they have a very high level of magic, because of the shape of the area that their spells generally affect. * When faced with magic-using opponents, use the spell opposite to their own against them, ie: those who use Blaze should be attacked with a Freeze and those who use a Freeze should be attacked with a Blaze. I also often find that when the enemy can't use magic, you can tell which spell to use on them from their colour. 'Cold' coloured enemies (blues, purples and greens) should be fought with Freeze, and 'Hot' coloured (red, orange, etc.) are best attacked using a Blaze spell. But this might just be a coincidence. * Another useful idea is to make sure that the Knights each have a spear and a lance. The lances may be more powerful, but on those occasions when distance is needed in an attack, it is good to be able to equip them with a spear and get in that extra attack that they couldn't have done with a lance. * Many of the weapons and rings can be used as well as equipped, often having the same effect as a magic spell. Useful if you need to save your MP's for the main guardian. The Halberd and Heat Axe are especially good. * Always check the stats of the monsters farthest away from you: the one with the best stats is usually the main guardian. If you aim to reach him and kill him first, the others will die too. This does, however, mean that you miss out on a lot of experience points and money. * Don't just try to 'up' one character's stats, the others will fall way behind and so weaken your force. However, you should always try to help characters who are not so good. The best way to do this is to use your best characters to 'down' the enemy's HP to their last few and then let the weaker characters finish them off. This keeps the experience spread out fairly even. * Keep an eye on the land effect (a high land effect decreases movement range), and remember: it doesn't affect fliers. * It's not a race so don't be afraid to take your time to plan ahead, it could save your life. * Always stock up well on healing seeds whenever possible. There are times where you can't get to a store for several battles without having to retrace your steps back a long way. * At the start of a battle don't move characters with a high movement range out too far. Besides the fact that they're more likely to get attacked (and die) sooner, the other characters will not be able to catch up very fast and will probably miss half the battle, if not more! * If there is more than one route to take during a battle, divide up your force equally. A Mage on each side, an Archer each side, a Knight, etc. Even if there doesn't seem to be as many monsters down one way, don't forget that more could appear or one might be particularly difficult. They'll all meet up at the end anyway. * If you're not certain what to do on your next move, save game and restart. If your plan doesn't work, simply reset and try again! * If you're fighting a Greater Devil, the best way to go about it is to kill off all the other monsters first. Then surround him/her on all four sides with characters that have a high defence and reasonable attack (a high agility can help too - cast a boost if you can). Keep all the others far away to avoid the spells, and when one of the four around the Devil needs healing, move a healer nearby to do so. If one dies, then it is very important to replace them right away, the last thing you need is a Devil running all over the battlefield! * Above all remember to have fun! Shout encouragement at your team if it helps, taunt the enemy! Really get into the game and there'll be no stopping you. If you become the character you'll understand the game better. Sounds crazy? It works for me! * Wait until a monster comes to attack you, then surround him and use magic on him, and not charge up on him the first chance you get with a character with large movement because you are more likely to get killed that way. From: Divineno99@aol.com :::General Tips for Gameplay::: * Search anything that looks a bit different, especially bookshelves and vases. Sometimes you have to select search using the A button, not just pressing the C button. * It doesn't hurt to be social: talk to everyone, you never know what you might pick up or who you might meet! * Anything that has a nasty name (ie: Dark..., Black..., Evil...) is more than likely to curse you if you equip it. However, if you keep it you can use it in battle, usually causing some fairly powerful spell. * Take notes if you like. It can be very frustrating if you forget something important that's been said. * To gain levels quickly, have your healers cast Aura and Heal spells as often as possible, even if the affected character is on full health. That's a guaranteed 10-30 exp and can give some very high level Master Monks! You can also replay battles as many times as you like to gain experience. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: 11)Cheats :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :::Special Options::: On the 'SEGA' logo, quickly press: U, D, U, D, L, R, L, R, U, R, D, L, U, B on the joypad. Then hold 'start' (you need to hold this until you have selected the game which you want to continue). When you choose the game you want to continue, you must select it with the C button, and then you can release 'start'. You should hear a sort of fanfare to let you know that it's worked. This will give you the following options: * Special Turbo * Control Opponent * Auto Battle * Game Completed If you use this cheat to control the opponent then you can also get all of the best items and weapons. Just make the bad guy drop his items and when you go to the Deals section of a shop, you'll be able to buy it! (thanx to James, STAKK and Josh for that one!) :::Re-name Characters::: After you've named the main character, hilight 'end', then press A and 'Start' together. Another character should appear. You can now name each member of the force! :::Sound Test::: To access this cheat, you must have completed the game. You can do this using the other cheat. I've never got this one to work, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't! When you opt to continue your game, hold START and press up and C. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: 12) Special Codes :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Today is an exciting day for all of us Shining Force 2 fans. Today is the day that the codes given to me by Mark Arnold (arnoldb@mail.minet.ca) are added to my page. As yet I have not tried them (I don't wanna take any risks with my current game, which is going very well). Remember, I didn't discover these, and all credit goes to Mark for them. If you have trouble with them, you can mail him (not me, I'm clueless!). Any typo's in this section of the guide will stay here because I didn't write this part ;) The Codes (exactly as he gave me them - thanks so much Mark!) I've found out the code I forgot plus some other things (such as walk on anything). I've decided to send all the members of Moogiechat a copy. Please spread this around to people who want it. Thanks. Here are the codes: To use these codes you need an accessory for your Genesis (a special controller or something like that) that will allow you to program buttons in certain order (I use a "Power Plug", but you can probably use any special controller or accessory). When you do this you usually have to designate a button the one to be programmed. For an example say that you want to program in: UP, RIGHT, LEFT, DOWN, B, C. You would program that in to any button, let's say "C". Then when ever you pressed "C" your accessory would put in the thing you programmed (UP, RIGHT, LEFT, DOWN, B, C) instead of "C". Once that's done you have to put "C" on turbo (Turbo is a command on accessories of Genesis that allow the button to be repeated very fast.), so your accessory will enter UP, RIGHT, LEFT, DOWN, B, C repeatedly very fast. So then you just have to hold down "C" and the thing that you programmed in (UP, RIGHT, LEFT, DOWN, B, C) will go very fast and repeatedly. Just for you people who don't know what a fanfare is, it's the noise that happens when you put the configuration code in, but it sounds evil. Also, I have the American version so I can't verify the code for the other versions (it should still work, so e-mail me if something goes wrong). 1) Battle Options: This first code allows you to do the configuration code, walk on anything (except rivers), attack any character, use any spell, use any item, shows surrounding enemies, makes characters explode, shows secret messages, and changes all movements (all of these are ONLY battle options, except for the configuration code and the walk on anything code): Okay, first of all program into your controller: UP, RIGHT, LEFT, DOWN, B, C. Then put the button that you designated to hold the code on turbo. Reset the Genisis (megadrive). Immediatly after you reset the Genesis (the screen is black) hold down the button that you designated to be the one with the code. When the Sega logo appears you should hear an evil fanfare. Now let go of the button. Then you can do the last part of the configuration code if you want to (hold down C & START when you select your quest). Go to a battle and choose the attack or magic option. When you're able to move the cursor around to choose somebody, hold down START and press A. A little box should come up in the upper right corner. Then you can change the numbers in the box. The game will freeze if you press "B" anytime the numbers are in the corner and sometimes (but not often) your character will lose their weapon-MAKE SURE EVERYBODY HAS THEIR WEAPONS BEFORE SAVING. When you're out of the battle you can walk on anything except rivers if you hold down "B" (this allows you to do plenty of things such as get those treasure chests in the Prism Flower Battle {valkerie} and outside Mitula's Shrine {shining ball}). 0=attack any character: Once you select this more numbers will come up (0 and 159). Here are the characters numbers: 0-Bowie 1-Sarah 2-Chester 3-Jaha 4-Kazin 5-Slade 6-Kiwi 7-Peter 8-May 9-Gerhalt 10-Luke 11-Rohde 12-Rick 13-Elric 14-Erik 15-Karna 16-Randolf 17-Tyrin 18-Janet 19-Higins 20-Skreech 21-Taya 22-Frayja 23-Jaro 24-Gyan 25-Sheela 26-Zynk 27-Chaz 28-Lemon 29-Claude 128-Boss of the battle The enemies numbers vary and the game will freeze if you select a number which no one occupies. 1=Cast any spell on any character: Once you select this more numbers will come up (1-4): these signify the level of the spell. After you select one of those numbers, more numbers will come up (0-42): these are all the spells. After you chose the spell, more numbers will come up (0-159): these are the character numbers again. For an example you could walk on anything or you wouldn't be able to move. You can save whenever you want using these codes. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- 2) Battle Select: Okay, first of all program into your controller UP, DOWN, UP, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, LEFT, RIGHT, UP, RIGHT, DOWN, LEFT, B, C, B, C, B, C. Then put the button you designated to be the one containing the code on turbo. Reset the Genisis. Immediatly hold down the button that contains the turboed code (the screen is black). When the Sega logo appears you should hear an evil fanfare. Release the button. The screen will turn black with a blue square contaning numbers in the top right corner (0-49). THIS PART IS OPTIONAL: IF YOU WANT PEOPLE TO GO AUTOMATICALLY UP LEVELS PRESS BE AND THEN TAP "A". PRESS "B" TO CONTINUE. After you enter a number, another blue square with numbers will appear (0-1). After you choose a number here, another blue square with numbers will appear (0-999/0-1). After you chose your numbers you will start at a battle. I know that the first blue square with numbers (0-49) is the battles. I have no idea what the other one's do. You start with all of the characters when you do this code. Here are the battles: 0-Secret boss battle 1-Gizmo battle 2-Battle from Granseal to Yeel 3-Battle from Yeel to Hawel's house 4-Battle with first encounter of Lemon 5-Battle to get jewel of light 6-Battle from Galam to Granseal 7-Battle with King Galam (first encounter) 8-Battle to save trapped man 9-Battle from the new Granseal to Ribble 10-Battle with power ring 11-Battle in Cavern of Darkness (Hodgoblin) 12-Battle after Oddler is introduced (to Bedoe) 13-Battle after exiting from Bedeo (Gerhalt joins here) 14-Battle to ruins where Petro's grandfather lives 15-Battle in shrine south of Ribble 16-Battle againt Kraken 17-Battle to Taros's shrine 18-Battle againt Taros 19-Battle from the Elven Village to the pond where Elric is. 20-Battle where you save Elric 21-Battle in Devil's Tail 22-Chestboard battle 23-Battle against Willard 24-Battle right before Rohde joins 25-Battle in cave between South and North Parmecia 26-Battle where you meet Gesph and Higins 27-First battle at the place where Jaro joins 28-Battle at bridge, where you meet Cameela 29-Battle in front of Mitula's Shrine 30-Battle against Zalbard 31-Battle in Palacon village, meet Geshp again 32-Battle where you get Jaro 33-Battle in Moun 34-Battle against Cameela 35-First battle after returned to Grans Island 36-Battle with prism flowers 37-Battle against Red Baron 38-Battle against Geshp 39-battle where Hydra wants to defeat you to become a greater devil 40-Battle against Odd Eye 41-Battle up the tower 42-Battle against King Galam (2nd encounter) 43-Battle against Zeon 44-Secret battle in forest 45-Empty 46-Empty 47-Empty 48-Empty 49-Empty When you're in a battle you can do all the battle options from the first code (the one at the top of the page). In battle select if you cast egress you will come to the chruch commands (cure, raise, promote, save), DO NOT SAVE; it will save mess up the game in the first position. After that if you exit the chuch commands you will be able to choose a shop number (0-100). These are the shops in the game plus other bonus shops that contain everything in the game, if you choose a number that doesn't exist, the Genesis will freeze. After that the normal commands will come up (member, magic, item, search). After you exit from those, the caravan commands will come up (join, depot, item, status). If you exit the caravan commands, you will be able to choose a battle again. Sometimes you'll be able to press "B" again here and tap "A" again (when it doesn't work the second time around it won't do anything or your Genesis will freeze). ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- 3) Start anywhere in the game: Okay, first of all program into the controller UP, UP, DOWN, DOWN, LEFT, RIGHT, UP, RIGHT, DOWN, LEFT, B, C, C, B, B, A, A, B. Then put the button that you designated to be the one with the code on turbo. Reset the genisis. Immediatly hold down the button that you designated to be the one with the code (the screen is black). When the Sega logo appears you should hear an evil fanfare. Release the button. The screen will turn black with a blue square contaning numbers in the top right corner (0-56). After you enter a number another blue square with numbers will appear (0-999/0-1). Select one of those numbers and you will start your quest in the middle of the game. I'm don't know how the numbers operate, they just do. Also, the only character you start the game with is Bowie. You can walk over anything by holding down "B" as youy move. If you die, you'll either start where you started with the code, or you'll be transported to an unwalkable territory outside Mitula's Shrine. I you get transported to Mitula's Shrine just hold down "B" and walk to land. In battles, you can use the Battle Options listed at the top of the page. You can save here, but it will record over the game in the first position. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- 4) Control the evade, heavy attack, double attack, and counter attack: This one just happens by itself about 40% of the time that you put in the first code I told you about. What will happen is right before your about to attack/use magic, those "yes or no heads" appear. The first one that appears controls evade. The second one that appears controls heavy attacks. The third one that appears controls double attacks. And finally the fourth one that appears controls counter attacks. Finally, that's all the codes. If you find out something that I don't know how to do (what 0-3 means in the item select, what B. Rock does, what Laser does, what Powder does, and what Fairy Powder does, how the numbers operate in the start anywhere code, what the numbers in the second two squares of the battle select code do, anything secrets you find within these codes), please let me know. Please give me credit for this. You also might be able to do these codes without the special accessories. I've tried to find out how, but I couldn't. Note: I didn't say you CAN I said you MIGHT be able to do them without specail accessories. You're welcome. From Mark Arnold If you need any more help e-mail me at arnoldb@mail.minet.ca Thanks to TBFORMOR@aol.com for the suggestions on B. Rock and the Fairy Powder (I - Moogie - knew the Fairy Powder anyway, but hadn't noticed that Mark didn't know what it did). :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: 13) Secrets :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: :::Increase Stats by 250::: (Japanese Version Only) You must have 99 experience points, then get muddled by LV2 Muddle, because LV 1 only decreases accuracy, and 2 makes you crazy. Then, the character must attack one of your own guys, and HIT (not miss. I suggest that you "Quit" just after being muddled, then try until it hits.) then you'll get a new level, and stats will increase by 250! Thanx to STAKK for telling me about that one! Shame it only works on Japanese Versions of the game :( :::Avoid all Attacks::: (Japanese Version Only) When your character is being attacked, press Right and C. The enemy will get 2 attacks and you will counter, but they will all miss. It's times like this I wish I had a Japanese cart! Thanx to Ckliang and STAKK for that one! :::Fairy Woods Bonus Stage::: To the east side of the Elven Village is a game-within-the-game. It's basically a battle with one main monster who creates more monsters. Kill the main one and the battle ends. Your time to complete the fight is recorded and added to the list of times. It's tough to beat, but it's good for a laugh. To get there, go clockwise around the outside of the houses and then when you've got the mithril in the bottom-right, follow the 2-hole clearing through to the right and you're there. :::Secret Final Battle::: After the battle against Zeon, when you've completed the game, watch the end sequence and wait for the last screen, a picture of the two jewels. Wait about 5 mins after this, and a box will appear that says 'And more...' ...press C and you'll be whisked away to a secret battle, where you'll have to kill all the Greater Devils, Zeon and a few other characters. If you look at the map of this battle, you'll see that it's in the shape of Sonic the Hedgehog! :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: 14) Secret Villages :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: As far as I know, there are only two secret villages: the Dwarven Town on Grans Island, and the Elven Town in South Parmecia. Neither of these are difficult to reach. :::The Elven Town::: After you get the Caravan, you travel along the dried up river to reach Creed. As you come off the river, there is the little cave with the sick dwarf. To the left of this is a clump of bushes. One square of this is a lot lighter. This is where the village is. To the east side of the village is a game-within-the-game. :::The Dwarven Town::: To get into this one, you need the Dry Stone. At one point in the river, north of Galam, there is an odd-looking section, where the river is 'dented' in both sides: use the Dry Stone here. The dwarves here can use your Mithril (for a fee) to make you some fairly impressive weapons! :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: 15) FAQs :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: * How do I get the chest outside Mitula's Sanctuary - the one on the island in the lake around the temple/How do I get the chest in the Prism Flowers Battle? * How do I get through the maze at the Devil's Head Statue? * Whenever I go to fight the big guy in armour, he just tells me to go away. How do I get the chest outside Mitula's Sanctuary [screen shot] - the one on the island in the lake around the temple/How do I get the chest in the Prism Flowers Battle [screen shot]? * The answer is really quite simple: you can't get it. In the original SHF game, characters could search during battles, but in SHF2, they can't. So, even though the fliers can reach the chest, they can't open it. Update!!!! I've heard from 2 people (Hsu and an anonymous submission) that if you take a flier to the chest and make him face north, the 'stay' option turns into a 'search' option... but that's on the Japanese version only :( apparently the game took up nearly the whole cartridge on the Japanese version, and when it was converted to US/UK it took even more (like more than a whole cart) and some bits had to be cut out. The chest as Mitula's contains a Shining Ball and the Prism Flower chest contains a Battle Sword. * 2. How do I get through the maze at the Devil's Head Statue? * I have a map of it now, but if you just want a description, here it is: As you enter Devil's Head, go up, then turn right at the junction. Go up the stairs on the right. At the four-way crossroads, go up, then down the stairs on the right. Follow the path to the top, then go left and up the stairs. Go down the path (don't slide down the other side!). Go down the stairs on the left. Ignore the 3 stairs in a row and go up past them, then along the path under them. Go up the stairs and down the path. Fall down the left slide, go up and then left up the stairs. Go up, and down the slide on the end. Follow on up the stairs and you're at the large door. * 3. Whenever I go to fight the big guy in armour, he just tells me to go away. How do I fight him? * You need the Achilles Sword. Look at the list of important items for how to get this. Visit ROHDE when you've got it, and he'll go to the Taros (the guy in Armour) with you. You can fight him now, but only the Achilles Sword can damage him. * 4. ROHDE always tells me that he's busy and to come back later. When I do, he says the same. How can I make him join me? * See above answer. * 5. When I go back to Yeel, after I've been to Parmecia, the town is deserted. What am I supposed to do here? * Play the Piano and a stairway will open up in the church. * 6. On the west side of Pacalon Castle, I can see a stairway, but no way to reach it. * To reach it is fairly simple: go inside the castle, to the room where you can see the stairs outside. On the outside of the castle wall, there should be a small group of stones. At this point there is a hole in the wall. Go through this. * 7. I follow an old man to a room where he says there is a tunnel to Grans Island. When we get there and I kill the monsters, he tells me it's locked. Where do I go from here? * You don't need that tunnel. Use the wooden panel you find in the room, as described in the Important Items list. Then go to Devils Tail (west Parmecia) to see Creed. I'm sure you can figure the rest out. If not: email me. * 8. How do I get the Holy Sword out of the stone? * You need to search using the A button. * 9. The Taros dropped his sword/Cameela dropped the Iron Ball. Nobody can equip it, what does it do? * The Taros Sword casts a Bolt level 2 and the Iron Ball a Blaze 3 (thanx to Timmy Mitchell for that correction!), but I'm not certain exactly who can use them. Their only real use is to sell! * 10. Are there any cheats for Shining Force 1? * Yes, have a looksie here! * 11. How many Mithrils are there and where are they located? * At my last count there were 15 (though it's rumoured there are 24... I'm looking into it), and they are listed here. * 12. What does the 'Game Completed' option do? * It makes the Sound Test and Re-Name Characters cheat work. For these the game needs to have been completed. Some people have informed me that selecting 'yes' for this option can lead to the game crashing and deleting your saved games. * 13. Is there going to be a Shining Force 3 on the Genesis? * I don't know the answer for certain, but with the 16-bits having fewer and fewer games released for it, I wouldn't get my hopes up too high. When I find out for certain, it'll be on this page! News!!! Shining Force 3 ('The Final Conflict') has recently been released for the Game Gear in Japan. I'm hoping that it will be converted to the Genesis sometime soon. For more information or assistance with Shining Force 3, contact Ryan Baer. * 14. I can't get the UDUDLRLR.... cheat to work! What am I doing wrong? * If you don't hear the fanfare, then it's probably because you're still holding UP when you press B or you're still holding B when you press START. * 15. Where can I buy Shining Force1/2/Shining in the Darkness? * This one needs a whole page! Have a look at this list. * 16. Which are the best characters for the force? * The characters themselves depend upon how good you have made them. Your best bet is to take the best two of each basic class. If there aren't two then take another from a different class. I usually have two Sword users (the main character and a flier), two Healers (they all tend to get bumped-off fairly fast without someone to look after them!), two Magic-users (one who is best with Freeze, one who is best with Blaze), two Warriors, two Knights and two Archers. I also usually plan my battles ahead and keep to a few basic strategies, outlined on my tips page. * 17. I bought the game used, without the booklet, could you tell me how to... * Well I could, but I'd rather you just had a look at the one I typed out... I left a few bits out, but it's fairly complete. * 18. Are you going to make a page about Shining Force 1 or Shining Force CD? * I'm hoping to start my SHF1 page in August sometime though it won't be complete for a while. As for SHF CD, while I enjoyed the game, most of it is done for you in the sense that you don't have to figure out where to go next, it's all battles, so I won't bother with a page for it. There are others out there though. :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: 16) Walkthrough :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Moogie's Shining Force 2 Page - Text Walkthrough ------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- Grans Island Walkthrough ------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- Where: What to do: Granseal As soon as you wake up head right, towards the school. Here you'll be told more about the Dwarven Blacksmith and where he lives. You'll also meet Petro (his Grandfather was the one who showed you where the old magic tunnel to Grans was), who dies soon after you arrive. This is not all that bad really, as after his death, Zynk decides to join. When you've finished here, follow the little path along the coast which is south of Roft. You'll cross a few bridges to reach the entrance to a cave. Claude's Cave Claude the Good Golem is here, and you'll need to use the Arm of Golem to make him join. If you don't have it he'll just complain, however, despite the fact that the Nazca Ship can no longer be used, there is still a way to return to the mainland to get his arm (and any mithril you happen to have missed - you'll be going to get it made into weapons soon). All you need do is go to the bottom of Claude's Cave, on the left you'll find a few squares that have a sort of brown engraved panel on them, one of these will open up the way to the Magic Tunnel. From here you can go back to Parmecia, and use the tunnel to go back to Grans (so if you forgot to go back for the other 3 characters at Creed's Mansion you can do it now). Prism Flowers Once you have gotten Claude, head back out from the coastal pathway, and then to the Prism Flowers battle. Try not to get in a horizontal or vertical line from them, as they have lasers. You might notice another chest in this battle, but it too can only be reached in the Japanese version of the game - it contains a Battle Sword. This is a good fight to replay to gain more experience. This is where you use the Dry Stone to reach the Dwarven Town in Grans Forest. Here you can find a Healing Water (chest on the right, outside); the Demon Rod (in a vase) and also the White Ring (chest on the left, outside). This is the place where you get the BlackSmith to make you some weapons with the mithril you have collected on your travels. Have a look at the Mithril Weapons Page to find out more about this. When you're done here, head south towards Galam. Galam In Galam you'll hear about the Devil's Head Statue and also find out some more about Lemon. Not a lot else to do here except finding a Healing Water in the treasury and the Evil Shot amongst the bushes outside the Northern Gate. Head towards Yeel, on the way you'll have a battle (in which you can win a Buster Shot). In the tunnels under Yeel, Chaz will join the force and you'll learn more of the plot. You can find a Quick Chicken and the Evil Knuckles here. When you go to leave you can either speak to Lemon and make him join or just ignore him. Either way he'll end up in the force eventually. Now leave the town and head south. You'll have to kill the Hydra to win the next battle, in which you can also win the Evil Ring and a Holy Thunder. If you didn't collect the mithril here at the start of the game, you can now (but you'll have to go back to the BlackSmith again). Inside the Shrine you'll find a Power Water and the Holy Sword. When you find the sword you'll have to search using A to pull it loose, and it will then be named the Force Sword. It will tell you that 'something opened somewhere', which means that the chest on the floor above can be reached now. It contains an Evil Axe. Now you should be ready to head into the last few battles of the game. Devil's Head When you arrive at the Devil's Head statue, there appears to be no way inside, and it should be like this in order for you to reach the Evil Lance behind it (you need to work your way through the 'trees'). Once you have this, you can then use the Force Sword at the mouth of the Statue (as the Story Tellers in Tristan told you to) to open it. If you passed Lemon by in Yeel, he'll join you now. Inside the head you have a maze to get through - see the new map (thanks go to DARK for that one) if you get stuck! After the maze, you'll meet up with an old friend: Oddler, but now you must fight him, as he is the Greater Devil Lord OddEye! He's very tough to kill and you need to be careful during the fight as the central and north-eastern sections of the battlefield crumble away, taking occupants of the spaces with them. You can win a Counter Sword and a Fairy Tear in this battle. My strategy for Zeon is to keep most of them away from him, and just send in one at a time. When they need healing, send a healer in. Keep them there until they die, then send someone else in. THE SECRET OF GRANSEAL The citizens of Granseal are hard at work. Inside the castle grounds, the centaurs concentrate on jousting and target practice while the spellcasters compare teleportation and healing spells. Granseal isn't at war, but there has been trouble with monsters on the outskirts of the kingdom, and the king has ordered troops to sweep the area and drive the creatures away. All notice the thunderclouds that gather above the castle. Not only is rain unusual for the season, but the storm does not look to be an ordinary one. The storm is a harbinger of coming events - events which will change Granseal and its neighboring kingdoms forever. An ancient evil has broken free, and is spreading over the land of Rune, devastating all that it touches. Is there anyone, or anything, that can stop it? Start the adventure and find out! 2. TAKE CONTROL! i) Directional button (D-pad) * Highlights options/items * Moves characters * Speeds through messages (press and hold) ii) Start Button (Start) * Skips through opening scenes iii) Button A * Opens Options windows and status windows * Speeds through messages (Press and hold) * Selects a character on Name Entry screen iv) Button B * Cancels selections * Speeds through messages (Press and hold) * Brings up a character cursor during battle scenes * Deletes a previously chosen character on Name Entry screen v) Button C * Opens Options windows and status windows * Speeds through messages (Press and hold) * Initiates conversations when standing next to a Non-Player Character (NPC) * Selects a character on Name Entry screen * Initiates search of a nearby object Note: Buttons X, Y and Z on the 6-button control pads have no functions in this game. 3. Use the D-pad to pick the game you wish to copy, and press A or C. Note: You can only copy a game if you have an empty game space available. If both spaces are filled, you have only 2 options: CONT. and DEL 6. YOUR ADVENTURE BEGINS As a student of Astral the Wizard, you and your friends study all the usual subjects: reading, writing and swordfighting. Your adventure begins on what is to be your last day of school, not to mention the last time you'll see your home, and even the land where you were born. Dark events are taking place on the Island of Grans. The two jewels which seal the Door to Darkness have been stolen from the Ancient Tower. These jewels were the barrier that kept Zeon, a creature of awesome evil power, trapped inside the tower. Finding where the jewels have been taken, and why, is a task that only the bravest of adventurers would dare to undertake. 7. MISSION COMMANDS Various options are available in each situation you and your team find yourselves in. In non-battle situations, press A to see your Options and press B to close the Options window. In battles, press B, move the white highlight brackets to an unoccupied area on the map and press A to see your special game options (see later sections on Options) 8. WALKABOUT OPTIONS In non-battle situations, such as walking around a town, you can access your Walkabout options by pressing A or C. If your leader is standing next to someone, start o conversation by pressing C. Likewise, standing in front of an item and pressing C allows you to check the item out. ITEM OPTIONS These options allow your characters to do various things with the items they're carrying. First choose what you want to do with the item. Next highlight the character who is carrying the item. The items each character is carrying are displayed. press the D-pad in the direction of the desired item to highlight it, and press A or C. You can buy them as described in part (i) 11. CARAVAN OPTIONS You will undoubtedly run across an odd fellow named Dr. Rohde in your travels. He has spent his life studying books that explain a special magic called 'mechanics'. Eventually you'll come across an ancient machine called a Caravan, and if anyone can get it working again, he's your man. And what good is the caravan to you? Read on! To use the Caravan, just move the Leader over it and press C. The following options appear: i) Join This command allows you to change members of the force when you have over 12 people. Just select who you want from the 'spares' and then choose who will leave the team in their place. ii) Item Same as in section 9. iii) Purge Use this to place members of the party in the Caravan when they're not needed. Note: You can place as many characters in the Caravan as you want (except the leader), but it may be safer in battles to have too many as opposed to having too few. 12. DEPOT OPTIONS The Caravan has a large cargo area which you can store items in. i) Look Use this to see what is in the caravan, what it does in battle and what it's worth. ii) Derive Take an item from the caravan and give it to a character. iii) Drop Same as the Drop command in section 9. iv) Deposit Highlight the item you want to put in the caravan and press A or C. 13. Answer YES or NO to his questions and select characters in the way described before. i) Save Use this to save you current game at the present location. ii) Raise Revive a member of the Force who was defeated in battle. (you have to pay for this!) iii) Promote When a character reaches LV20, he can be promoted to a higher class. iv) Cure Has the same effect as a DETOX spell. It removes a curse or poison from a person. 14. COMBAT OPTIONS I'm not gonna bother with all the heroic talk before this section, because it's of very little use :) The area your player can move in will flash. Move him with the D-pad, then press A or C to get these options: i) Attack Obvious really! A flashing area will appear where you can attack. If there is more than one monster, you have to choose which one to go for. ii) Item Select the item you want to use and whom you will use it on (within the allowed area) iii) Stay Leave your character on that spot until his next turn. iv) Magic Use a magic spell. Rather like using an item. I'll explain the spells later on. 15. SPECIAL COMBAT OPTIONS Before your character moves, press B and either select (with A) an enemy, one of your team-mates or a piece of land, with the white brackets. You'll gate these options if you select the land, if not you'll get the stats of the person you selected. i) Map Will bring up a map of the battle ground. Green dots represent you're team, red ones are the monsters. ii) Member Check the stats of a member. iii) Quit Exit the game. It'll save your current position in the battle. iv) Speed Choose the speed you want messages displayed at, or switch them off altogether. Note: Use the Egress spell to retreat from the battle if it gets too much! Your HP will be restored but curses or poisons will remain and must be cured. ================================================================ *******************Spells, Weapons and Classes:***************** ================================================================ CLASSES: ACHR Archer BDBT Bird Battler BDMN Birdman BWNT Bow Knight BRGR Brass Gunner GLDT Gladiator GLM Golem HERO Hero KNTE Knight MAGE Mage MRMK Master Monk NINJ Ninja PLDN Paladin PGNT Pegasus Knight PHNK Phoenik PNNX Phoenix PRST Priest RNGR Ranger RDBN Red Baron RBT Robot SNIP Sniper SORC Sorcerer SDMN Swordsman THIF Thief VICR Vicar WARR Warrior WFBR Wolf Baron WFMN Wolfman WIZ Wizard WEAPONS: (I haven't put the attack boost, because you only really ever get offered a more powerful weapon than the one you've got at a shop.
