Pokemon Training: What Beginers and Everyone In General Should Know False Prophet Maduin maduin@crosswinds.net I have made this as a text saying the basic principles that all Pokemaniacs should know that may not be known to all, especially newbies. This will help many new players on their road to the elite four. Starting Pokemon Stat Boosting With Items Pokemon Powers and Evolution Stone Evolution and Powers Evolution in General Cheating, Game Genies, Game Sharks Glitches, Item Copy, Pokemon HM's, Bad Thing Skills To Avoid Na-na na-na na-na na-na Fishing! Shit Happens, Erased Games Starting Pokemon: The difficulty of the game is determined by the first Pokemon you choose. The first gym leader is Brock with rock/ground Pokemon, the second is Misty with water Pokemon. The order in starting Pokemon from hardest to easiest is: Charmander, Pikachu, Squirtle, and Bulbasaur. Charmander is fire, and fire is ineffective against both rock and water, and is weak against water. Pikachu is electric, and electric does not effect ground at all, and rock very little, but is strong against water. Squirtle is water, rock is weak to water, and water has little effect on itself. Bulbasaur is grass/poison. Rock and water are weak to grass, and water has a low effect. Stat Bossting With Items: Every skill bosting item, Hp UP, Calcuim, Iron, Carbos, and Protien, can be used up to ten times on each Pokemon. However, the how efective they are is baced on the stat score your pokemon already has. So for the best results, use them only when the intended Pokemon is level 100. PP UPs cannot be bought, I have only found three in the game so far. Thay can be used up to three times on any ability, and are also baced on the abilities current PPs. Pokemon Powers and Evolution (see also Stone Evolution): If you evolve your Pokemon, they will learn new abilities at later levels than if they had not evolved. In rare cases, they will learn different abilities. Though you may think that you should leave evolution alone until you learn the powers quicker, think again. A PokemonÍs stats will increase differently in an evolved state, typically for the better. One exception is Raichu, whoÍs speed increases less than PikachuÍs, though the other stats do go up equal or better. Stone Evolution and Powers: When a Pokemon is evolved using a stone, it does not learn any new skills, even if the evolved form is caught in the wild. The only exceptions to this are Cloyster, Eevee, and Nidoking and queen, who learn a different skill if evolved by level 23. Evolve Eevee imediately, before a single level up, and Cloyster learns Spike Cannon at level 50. Evolution in General: When Pokemon reach high enough levels, they can evolve. Some Pokemon need to be traded or have stones used on them to evolve. When evolved, the Element of the Pokemon can change to include a second element if it only had one before. You also get a new entry on your Pokedex. When evolving, you can press the B button to stop the evolution. To start it again, just trade or stone the Pokemon again. If it is a level evolved Pokemon, just raise it one more level. Cheating, Game Genies, Game Sharks (see also Glitches): You can find codes to cheat at Pokemon all over, including at this site. Game Shark codes have a nasty habit of erasing your saved game, so donÍt use one. The only risk from a Game Genie is an occasional freeze, but thatÍs rare, and only when a useless code is used. Glitches, Item Copy, Pokemon: Glitching the game is fun. the most obvious glitch in the game has a name: Missing Number (abbreviated as MISSINGNO.), #000 (not) on your Pokedex. To activate Missing Number, go to Vividian Town and talk to the guy who shows you how to catch Pokemon and say youÍre not in a hurry. Then fly to Cinnibar or Seafoam (yes, I know you have to SURF to Seafoam), and surf on the eastern coast. There you will fight Pokemon reflecting the area you were in last (easy way to get Safari Zone Pokemon), and Missing Number. Missing Number is level 80, his defense sucks but has a through the roof attack. He will NOT erase your game. Fighting Missing Number will cause the sixth item in your inventory to increase in number by about 100+. Suggestions for this are PP UPÍs, Rare Candies, Moon Stones, and Master BallÍs (duh). In the Blue version there is a Missing Number with a screwed up name and is level 0. It evolves into Kangaskahn at level 1. Also, you can fight Pokemon with levels higher than 100 here. In Red, thereÍs Missing Number, Golbat, and Snorolax. In Blue thereÍs Missing Number, Clefable, and Marrowack. HMÍs, Bad Thing: Never put an HM on a Pokemon you intend to use or is unique. HMÍs also lower trade value. A good idea is to have one Pokemon loaded down with HMÍs. I suggest using the Game Genie code to get Mew, as Mew can learn any HM or TM. Put Cut, Fly, Strength, and Surf on him. Get another Mew to use while youÍre at it for the second rate skills: Flash, Dig, Teleport, and Softboiled. Skills To Avoid: Rage makes your pokemon attack every turn with a normal attack until it is dead or the battle won, and you cannot do anything until one of those happens. Thrash does the same as rage, only you also become confused should your pokemon live through it. Self-Destruct and Explosion do more harm than good, their damage is related to your pokemon's health level, so using it as a last resort is pointless, and Full-revives don't grow on trees. Skills that take multiple turns to activate leave you vulnerable, and could still do little or miss. Avoid Solar Beam, Razor Wind, Skull Bash, Sky Attack, Hyper Beam, and the like. The safe ones are Bide (if it doesn't get you killed), Fly, and Dig, as the later two avoid attacks the turn they are used IF they activate first. However, Swift will still hit, as its power is that it never misses. Finally, since you cannot run from trainer battles, Roar and Whirlwind are pretty useless there. Na-na na-na na-na na-na Fishing!: The Old rod will catch a Magikarp. the Good rod can also catch Goldeen and Poliwag. The Super rod can catch them all. So only get the Super rod on Route 13, the others will only take up space in your inventory, like the Town Map. Shit Happens, Erased Games: If you go to continue your game and get a message that the save is corrupt or damages, donÍt panic. If you did not use a Game Shark (if you did, or if it says there is no saved game, youÍre screwed), just turn it off and back on. Hopefully on the first try, or after several, your game will load normally. Just re-save as soon as you get your game active.
