POKEMON: Trading Card Game CARD LISTING and Secrets v1.75 by CX (cabbitxtreme@yahoo.com) _-CONTENTS-_ A: Intro B: Colosseum Set Listing C: Evolution Set Listing D: Mystery Set Listing (COMPLETED 6.12.2000!) E: Laboratory Set Listing F: Promotional Cards (COMPLETED 6.12.2000...?) G: Secrets H: Credits _-PART A: Introduction-_ Well, folks, this is it-- the card listing for Pokemon: Trading Card Game for Game Boy Color. This is my first FAQ--[not really. I did the FAQ for the Usenet group alt.games.lunar, which was well-ignored and met with critical apathy...]-- OK, my first GAME FAQ, so go easy on me. The purpose of this document is to delineate which cards belong to which set, and of these cards, which have real-life counterparts. Some, like Meowth w/ Cat Punch, are promo foil cards included in the game box (you can only get Meowth, as I later found out, though!). Others, IIRC (like Promo Mew, I think) are GB exclusives. Note that this is an FAQ for the North American version of Pokemon TCG. I have no idea whether it will match up for foreign-language versions, nor do I have any real drive to find out, as I only speak two languages myself (English and Bad English). Here is the basic terminology I'll use for each set, laid out in an easy-to-read example: A01 c(B) Nidoran Male S0 Gr Lv20 HP40 Horn Hazard / -- #32 "A01" is the card's in-game designation (ie it's in the Colosseum set, card 1, so it's card A01). Next is the card's rarity and RL set: c = common d = uncommon r = rare B = Basic set J = Jungle set F = Fossil set GB = Game Boy exclusive Next after rarity and set is the card's name. A01 is Nidoran Male-type. After the card's name, we have its card type: S0 = Basic Pokemon S1 = Stage 1 Evolution card S2 = Stage 2 Evolution Tr = Trainer card Pokemon cards have their Type, Level, HP, attacks (up to 2), and Pokedex number listed after them. Trainer cards will have a short description of their effect. Pokemon Powers are NOT explained but are instead noted with a PP. The Type codes are as follows: Gr = Grass Fr = Fire Wa = Water Th = Thunder Fg = Fighting Ps = Psychic Co = Colorless Lastly, a definition: Pull: Search for & remove a card from your deck or discard pile. Shuffle the deck if necessary after searching. What happens to the card typically is that it goes to your hand (if nothing else is specified) _-IMPORTANT!!!-_ Please bear in mind that as of yet this is still a work in progress. I hope to be able to complete the list soon, which shouldn't be too hard given the limited number of cards and the relative ease of collecting them, but I make no guarantees whatsoever that this list is in any way complete at ANY phase. This notice will vanish when I feel that the list is as complete as I can make it. Right now it's sort of on hold while I play enough matches to get the final five cards, but rumors of secret "Card-Pop Only" cards will probably have to remain just that-- rumors... _-REVISION HISTORY/IMPORTANT DATES-_ 4.11.2000: Pokemon Trading Card Game released in US. 4.14.2000: I bought the game, having nothing better to do. 4.14.2000: I was immediately addicted. ^_^ 4.15.2000: After obtaining the first Master Medal (Grass), I decide to create a card list to help out other people. 4.16.2000: Snagged Rock and Science Medals. Retrieval Tr Discard 2 to pull up to 4 basic Energy from your Discard. Win this from Ronald the second time you meet him (after your fifth medal). _-PART G: Secrets-_ _-How to Get The Suicide Card, "Imakuni?"-_ Simply put, to get the most useless card in the game, "Imakuni?", you must track down and defeat Imakuni?, the funky-looking psycho. This is not quite as easy as it sounds... First off, good luck finding him. He'll be hiding out in one of the eight Club's PC rooms (hang a left at the entrance). Check up by the bookcases (the music will change, too, if he's in the room). After finding him, save your game using the Diary function. Sure, it won't help (if you have to reset, you will more than likely not find Imakuni? there), but it'll get you thinking, too. Short of having a deck of all energy cards, there is no way to lose to this guy. He regularly plays "Imakuni?", a Promo card that confuses his own active Pokemon, and that should give you a pretty good idea of his playing philosophy. His favorite Pokemon to use are Psyduck, Slowpoke, and Drowzee, whom he will evolve at will. However, that doesn't change the fact that his deck sucks. Beating him the first and second times will net you one booster pack of each set, and the third time he'll get all upset and hand over the Imakuni? card. Now, lock this card away and never use it, because it's just as useless in your hands as it was in his. Note that he will appear again after you get the Promo card; beating him then will again give you one of each type of booster pack. Every third time you lay the smackdown, however, you'll be rewarded not with booster packs, but another Imakuni? card. Whooptee-doo. _-Scads of Energy At No Cost-_ After acquiring the Promo slowpoke (see above), you may find yourself a little short on Energy cards. Sure, you could go after Aaron a few times in the Mason Lab, but just before you go into Aaron's room, just above the door, there's a scientist who'll hand over a bunch of Energy cards if you're running low. _-Notes on Mew-_ About Card C37: This card is listed in the game as being part of the Fossil set; it is an error. Mew is available in reality only as a promotional card via official WotC Pokemon tournaments. (This error is more than likely due to the fact that Mew WAS part of the Fossil set in Japan.) About Card P14: This card is NOT the counterpart of reality's Promo Mew card. Instead, either it is a GB exclusive or is the "Movie Mew" (as in the Mew featured in "Mewtwo Strikes Back"; the Pokemon Power Neutralizing Shield lends itself nicely to that theory). _-Eevee Revolution!-_ As it turns out, Eevee quickly becomes one of the most versatile cards in your arsenal late in the game. In fact, the easiest way to defeat the 5-match Challenge Machine battles (which net you nothing for 5 consecutive wins, by the way) is to use the following deck, which I call the "Revolutionary Eevee Deck": Card #--Name--------------------Quantity----------------Card #--Name--------------------Quantity B42 Eevee Lv12 4 | C13 Flareon Lv22 4 C18 Vaporeon Lv29 4 | C26 Jolteon Lv24 4 C39 Meowth Lv15 2 | A37 Kangaskhan Lv40 3 A39 Professor Oak 2 | A40 Bill 2 B43 Pokemon Trader 1 | B47 Energy Search 2 A45 Pluspower 2 | A46 Defender 2 E02 Fire Energy 8 | E03 Water Energy 8 E04 Lightning Energy 8 | E07 Double Colorless 4 To use this deck effectively, you first need to know what type of deck your opponent is using, and then exploit the weaknesses of his or her deck. Eevee's triple evolution becomes near invaluable when facing opponents who have multiple types in their deck, such as an Electric deck that contains Zapdos (who is resistant to Fighting, and not weak as expected). In the event that you're up against a Fighting deck, make sure to evolve your Eevees into Flareons and Vaporeons quickly (recall that colorless are weak against Fighting); Jolteon will be hit with weakness if it goes up against a Fighting deck. More often than not, however, you will find yourself not having the right evolution for the job. Kangaskhan's Fetch attack serves to garner cards nicely while serving as a wall, and Meowth's Pay Day attack does damage while doing the same thing (maybe). One thing to keep in mind before using a Professor Oak is to use him only when you can do absolutely no more good with the cards currently in your hand. Don't sweat too much about getting the right type of energy for the evolution you want; each of the evolutions are the GB-exclusives, which require colorless energy to power their attacks (at the cost of possessing a few less HPs than their real counterparts). Your main task is to quickly get the evolutions out and decimate your opponent. A good many of your duels may end with you vanquishing all of your opponent's Pokemon, so expect a fast match. MORE SECRETS AS I FIND 'EM.... _-PART H: Credits-_ I'd like to thank the following people: Mad Catz electronics, whose AC Adapter saved me plenty of batteries while writing this FAQ (IMO it's the best adapter/battery pack out for the GBC, short of the Nintendo brand one) My friends and family, who were gracious enough to bear with me whilst rattling on about Pikachu et al. On alt.games.final-fantasy, Ramen Junkie and kwarlord, who spurred me to action to complete this FAQ RPGamer.com, who got this FAQ first (before my site, even) GameFAQs.com, who as of v1.75, also has this FAQ (also before my site) Bryce C., who helped me along getting a significant number of the cards necessary This FAQ is (c) 2000 John Zeitler. You may feel free to distribute it in any form you wish as long as this notice is included in it. My name ("John Zeitler" or "CX") must be on any and all public displays of this FAQ. Ah, screw it. You know what? I'm a gamer, not a lawyer. Basically, what this all boils down to is "Don't steal my work. If you do, you will be in deep doo-doo." Oh yeah, one last thing, Pokemaniacs and Lou Bega fans alike will want to see the "Trainer #5" I wrote, so make sure you check it out here (It's near the bottom of the column): http://www.rpgamer.com/rpguru/veronica/av103199.html That's it, that's all, there ain't no more. May your Pikachu shock and your Snorlax snore.
