I hope whatever information you seek can be found in here, as this is the only (known) Mystic Quest FAQ on the Internet to date. This is only the first revision of this FAQ, so there aught to be a few mistakes here and there. Feel free to EMail corrections, suggestions, thanks, or just plain friendly mail to cyan@sea-to-sky.net, and you'll get a prompt reply. Anyways, enough said, on with the FAQ! [1.2] Revisions to this FAQ As this FAQ is relatively new, it hasn't undergone many revisions, but they are there. This will probably grow over time. Squaresoft - Without these guys, there would be no Mystic Quest Thomas Mathews - I got Mystic Quest from this guy, thanks! Scott Frans - Contributed the "infanite items" bug [1.5] What I'm looking for Before you EMail me, make sure that the information you're about to give me isn't already on this FAQ. Here's a list of things that I do, and do not want: [DO] * Game Genie codes. Especialy ones that make the game harder * Any information missing (denoted by a ??? in the FAQ) * Secrets (yeah right, but you never know) * Bugs (there are probably more of these somewhere) * Any information on the Japanese release, Final Fantasy USA * Constructive critisizm [DO NOT] * Pictures, FanFics, Remixed digital music, these belong on the UnOfficial SquareSoft HomePage (http://www.sqla.com/unofficial) * Information already in this FAQ * Destructive critisizm Note, if you do send some good information in, I will credit you for it, especialy if it's a major piece. Regardless, you will be in the thanks section. [1.6] What's in the works? Well, currently I am working on a Mystic Quest walkthrough, however, that probably won't surface until sometime in August, since I am taking a vacation starting on the 21st. I am always working on making this FAQ better for you, so keep on sending in suggestions. Also, I am continualy making the Mystic Quest Script look neater. Furthermore, I am looking for Game Genie codes for Mystic Quest that make the game more difficult. I think it'd be neat to have monsters twice as difficult and stuff. It'd throw more challenge into the game, in my opinion. Last, but not least, I am looking for more information on the Japanese release of Mystic Quest, called Final Fantasy USA. Any information on this would be greatly appreciated. --=[ 2.0 ]=-- Non-Gameplay Information --=[ 2.0 ]=-- [2.1] Does Mystic Quest suck? *sigh* Believe it or not, many people out there will go around telling people "MYSTIC QUEST SUCKS!!!!!!". Despite popular belief, Mystic Quest does _not_ "suck", in fact if you get into it, it's a rather good RPG. The thing to remember is, Mystic Quest was obviously made for people who were just entering the RPG area, and needed a springboard to get started with RPGs in general. Mystic Quest did a great job of this. For those of you who still aren't convinced Mystic Quest is great, here's a list of the good things in Mystic Quest: * The music is fantastic. The Fireburg music will have you dancing, and the Doom Castle music is one of a kind. The Battle music is also a great piece. * Although the graphics aren't up to par with todays standards, they were fantastic back in 1992. That's right, Mystic Quest was made in 1992. Impressive, huh? * Straightforward storyline. This was probably due to the beginner element once again, however, I hear most people nowadays yelling things like "non-linear sucks!". Mystic Quest is about as linear as you can get. * For those of you who like hack-and-slash, there's lots of that in Mystic Quest. Mystic Quest was also great for beginners in more ways than one: * No complicated equiping of items, armor, weapons, etc. You just had a weapon, and several pieces of armor that auto-equiped themselves. * No random monster encounters. Good if you need to leave a dungeon and go back to a town, and not worry about any monsters what so ever. * Your second party member could be set to fight on his/her own, thus allowing the player to concentrate on his own method of attack, rather than confuse the player with many options at once. Lastly, Mystic Quest is -fun-. If you go to play Mystic Quest with a negative attitude about the game, you're not going to have fun while playing it. Play it with a positive attitude and you'll have _alot_ more fun. Trust me, Mystic Quest is great! [2.1] Why did Squaresoft release Mystic Quest? I have a feeling Squaresoft released Mystic Quest as a way for beginners to get into RPGs, slowly. Mystic Quest has many features that makes RPG playing easy on the beginner. From there, they can go into more complicated RPGs, like Final Fantasy 2, or Final Fantasy 3, for example. [2.3] What was Mystic Quest called in Japan? Believe it or not, Mystic Quest _was_ created in Japan, and it _was_ released there. However, under a different name. Mystic Quest was known as "Final Fantasy USA" in Japan. --=[ 3.0 ]=-- Gameplay Information --=[ 3.0 ]=-- [3.1] What can I win at each of the battlefields? Actually, yes there are bugs in Mystic Quest. Only three so far, however I wouldn't doubt if there were some more hidden deep down. Here they are: (1) Some versions of the game will glitch at the Falls Basin. I'm not too sure on the details of this one, other than the fact that it exists. If anyone has some more info on this, please EMail me. (2) If you have none of one of the two "buyable" items (Cure Potions and Seeds), then buy 0 of the item, you will have an infinite number of the item. This will only work for awhile, and then it starts counting down from 99 again. Aparently it also has very serious concequences if you use it earlier in the game. [Contributed by Scott Frans] (3) If you cast Cure on the Dark King, it will majorly damage him, instead of heal him. I'm not too sure if it was a bug, or on purpose, so I'll assume a bug. --=[ 4.0 ]=-- Miscellaneous --=[ 4.0 ]=-- [4.1] Mystic Quest trivia Q: Are there chocobos in Mystic Quest?
