----------------------- |DEFEATING THE WEAPONS| ----------------------- By Roto (krause27@earthlink.net) --------------------- |GENERAL INFORMATION| --------------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- DISCLAIMER --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- The information in this FAQ may NOT be reproduced without full permission of the author (krause27@earthlink.net). I am in no way affiliated with Squaresoft, SCEA, SQLA, or any other related company. WEAPON, Final Fantasy 7, and everything else mentioned in this FAQ are trademarks of either Squaresoft or Sony Computer Entertainment America, and NOT of me. --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- INTRODUCTION --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- "The WEAPONs are impossible!" you say. "How do I kill Ruby WEAPON if my attacks do only 300 damage?" you may ask. "Emerald WEAPON is literally impossible! His attacks do 9999 damage!" you might shout. Well, news: none of these statements are true. The WEAPONs aren't impossible, there are attacks that do good damage to Ruby WEAPON, and Emerald WEAPON is NOT impossible. This guide will not only teach you how to kill the WEAPONs, but will answer ALL your questions. --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- GETTING MATERIA --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- To beat the WEAPONs, you'll need to master a lot of materia. The BEST way to do this is to put Cloud and Cid in your party. Give Cloud the Apocalypse (found in the Ancient Forest) and Cid the Scimitar (found just before submarine mission in Underwater Reactor). The reason you're doing this is because they're both triple growth weapons. Now, go to the Northern Crater, and when you have to take 2 paths, take the left path. Then go to the first path down (the forest path) and equip yourself with "Enemy Lure" (chocobo racing gift... not necessary, but nice). Fight Magic Pots (give them elixers before fighting them or you can't hurt them) and "Bouncy Balls" (my name for them... trust me, you'll know them when you see them :P) in the area. You should master the materias in no time at all. Short on Elixers for the Magic Pots? You'll also fight Master Tonberries (the lantern-holding animals with the stars over their heads) in the area. Steal Elixers from them. ----------------- |ULTIMATE WEAPON| ----------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- INFORMATION --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- Ultimate WEAPON is the original WEAPON found in the Japanese and English versions. He is probably the easiest of all the WEAPONs because he is constantly flying away. You can fight him either right before Disc 3 or during Disc 3, but I'd reccomend during Disc 3, because that if he flies over Midgar before it you'll be forced to parachute in. You'll find him hovering over a lake near Junon. Ramming him initiates combat. --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- REQUIREMENTS --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- PARTY MEMBERS: Any RECCOMENDED LEVEL: 40+ EQUIPMENT: Just don't use the Buster Sword :) MATERIA: Ultima, Bahamut Zero, Knights of the Round... any strong spells and summons. --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- DEFEATING HIM --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- He's not that hard, really :P Hit him with your strongest spells and summons, and he'll fly away. Ramming him causes him to find a target more rapidly. Then, when he finally hovers over another one, ram into him again, and you'll initiate combat again. He'll fly away several times before he finally hovers over the area near Cosmo Canyon. Kill him then, and you'll get Cloud's Ultimate Weapon, the Ultima Weapon (ultimate WEAPON, ultimate weapon, ultima weapon... couldn't Square have put more thought into weapon names? :P) Now you'll be able to enter the Ancient Forest, a hard-as-hell forest with great rewards. Sorry, no coverage of this, as I don't know how I got through it, and I'd just confuse you if I tried to explain :) ------------- |RUBY WEAPON| ------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- INFORMATION --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- You'll find Ruby WEAPON after killing Ultimate WEAPON, his head sticking out of the sand. At first glance, Ruby WEAPON's impossible. His attacks do tons of damage to you, yout attacks do either zip or only 300 damage, and he sucks away random party members. But once you know how to do beat him, he'll be no problem. This part explains everything. --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- REQUIREMENTS --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- PARTY MEMBERS: Cloud. Kill your other 2 so he can't suck them into his Whirlsand. RECCOMENDED LEVEL: 60+ EQUIPMENT: Give Cloud the Mystile, Apocalypse, and a Ribbon. The Mystile has 60% Magic Defense, the Apocalypse has triple growth, and the Ribbon prevents his slow petrifying. MATERIA: Knights of the Round Level 2+ paired with HP Absorb, Mime, Time (or Enemy Skill with Big Guard), W-Summon, and Regen Level 3+ --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- DEFEATING HIM --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- Ruby WEAPON is pretty easy once you learn how to do this. First off, cast Regen. Next turn, cast Haste or Big Guard. (If you have W-Magic, you can do this in one turn) If he's taken down your MP, use a Turbo Ether. Now, use W-Summon to cast 2 KOTRs. Next turn, Mime it. Then repeatidly Mime it until you've beaten him. It should take about 7-10 turns to kill him using this strategy. For defeating him, you'll receive the Desert Rose and a shitload of EXP, AP, and gil. Now go to the Kalm Traveller, and trade the Desert Rose in for his Gold Chocobo. Was it worth it? No. You allready should have a Gold Chocobo if you have KOTR, and the gold chocobo's top speed when maxed out is extremely low, as well as his stamina compared to other gold chocobos. The only satisfaction you'll have of beating him is that you can tell your friends that you killed Ruby WEAPON, and all the EXP, AP, and gil. --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- OPTIONAL STRATEGIES --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- If you have KOTR Level 4+, or Master Summon, you could pair Final Attack with Revive. Why not do this with KOTR Level 2? You'd mess up your Mime, and not be able to mime KOTR. Why not Final Attack and Phoenix? For one, you want your other members to remain dead. Also, elemental attacks heal Ruby WEAPON. If you have W-Magic, you can cast Regen and Haste in one turn, decreasing possible danger (although you can't do Regen and Big Guard). ---------------- |EMERALD WEAPON| ---------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- INFORMATION --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- Emerald WEAPON may seem impossible at first glance. Aire Tam Storm, his ultimate attack, does 9999 damage to everyone. But there is a way to kill him. You'll find him floating around underwater. Can't find him? Resurface and dive down again. He'll usually be near Junon. Ramming him causes him to attack. --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- REQUIREMENTS --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- PARTY MEMBERS: Cloud, Cid, and anyone else. RECCOMENDED LEVEL: 60+ EQUIPMENT: Give Cloud the Mystile and Apocalypse. Give Cid a Wizard Bracelet and a Scimitar. Give your other person a double growth weapon if they have one, but if not, a normal growth one. The reason for Apocalypse and Scimitar are they're triple growth. MATERIA: Knights of the Round Level 2+ paired with HP Absorb, 3 Mimes, W-Summon, and Underwater. --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- DEFEATING HIM --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- Use basically the same strategy as fighting Ruby Weapon. Use W-Summon to cast 2 KOTRs, then repeatidly Mime it. You'll do an endless chain of KOTRs, and he'll be dead before you know it. There's a chance he won't even open his eyes if you do this correctly. For beating him, you'll get a shitload of EXP, AP, and gil, and you'll get the Earth Harp, which can be traded in to the Kalm Traveller for Master Summon, Master Command, and Master Magic Materias. THIS is definately worth it, a lot more than fighting Ruby WEAPON is. --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- OPTIONAL STRATEGIES --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- If you don't want to risk dying of Aire Tam Storm or anything else, then use KOTR Level 4+ (or Master Summon) and Final Attack linked with Phoenix. Keep in mind that if you don't have high-level KOTR or a Master Summon Materia, this will mess up your chain of Mimes. -------------- |OTHER TRICKS| -------------- --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- THE MIME TRICK --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- If you're using the Final Attack + Phoenix/Revive optional strategy, then you don't need KOTR Level 4. All you need is Level 3. Use W-Summon to cast 2 KOTRs... it'll say "Summon power is used up" on the second one the FIRST time you try and cast it, but when you mime it, it'll do both! --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- THE OPEN-DISC TRICK (Use at your own risk!) --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- Cast Regen. If you are real low, when the WEAPON is about to attack, open your PSX. Your HP will still decrease, but until you close it, the WEAPON can't attack. Use this trick at your own risk. It is possible it could scratch your disc. I am NOT responsible for whatever happens to your disc, because you are using this at your own risk, and YOU decided to do it. You have been warned. --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- THE W-ITEM TRICK --------------------------------------------------------------------- ------- If you have the "W-Item" Materia (found in Midgar or dug up in Bone Village (look for Good Treasure)), you can use the "duplication trick" for getting Elixers to master Materia. Select an elixer, select who to use it on, then select another item, then hit X. Each time you do this, you'll get a free copy of the item! (thanks to various sources for this) ======= CREDITS ======= Thanks to my friend, Jared Bloom, for most of the information, and for gloating to me about how he beat the WEAPONs before me. Thanks to the authors of other WEAPON information guides for frustrating and misleading me until I finally had to figure it out for myself Thanks to the da chicken (author of "Defeating Ruby Weapon") for the W-Item trick. Thanks to Sony for, instead of doing a good translation, wasting their time adding the 2 WEAPONs. Thanks to Square for making Final Fantasy 7, and ultimately making this FAQ possible. Last (and least), thanks to Microsoft for not including a spell check in the MS-DOS editor. -Roto Densetsu krause27@earthlink.net
