He helped me get started on writing a FAQ and taught me how since this is my first time writing one. ^^ + Onyx - (Onyx85@optonline.net) Friend of mine from IRC, who is a fan of the Castlevania series like me. He helped me out a lot with the Spellbook section. + AstroBlue - (astroboy_blue@yahoo.com) For letting me use his CoMS Iventory Translation Guide to let me know what items are what when writing my walkthrough. Without this, I wouldn't know what to call the items you collect, I would have had to been like "grab the red jewel thingy", heh. + ShdwRlm3 - (shdwrlm3@yahoo.com) Has a good Monster Guide on GameFAQs, which helped me find the names of monsters. + Zanapher - (?) Told how to access the various Merchant Shops in the game on GameFAQ's message board. + Demajen - (to4s@hotmail.com) I downloaded the save state from his CV : CoMS site. Since he has already beaten the game, I got to try out things, like the Boss Rush mode. So it helped me with my FAQ a lot. He also gave info about the Merchant Shops on GameFAQs board. Give his site a visit at http://harmonyofdissonance.cjb.net + The Castlevania Dungeon - (http://www.classicgaming.com/cvdungeon) Their CoMS page helped me, especially with the monsters, so I could match the pictures and find out what the monster's name was. It is also the largest Castlevania site on the net, give it a look! + CJayC - (http://www.gamefaqs.com) The owner of GameFAQs. This site is the backbone of gaming, and has been around since 1995. It must be hard maintaining one of the largest gaming sites in the world, and I am glad he hasn't gave up. :) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATES ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 6/22/2002 - Version 0.7 Did a lot more on the Walkthrough section and added some new sections. The Walkthrough now goes up to Castle B. 6/16/2002 - Version 0.65 Finnaly finished the Spellbook section, w00t! All sections are done now, except the walkthrough and part of the Endings section. =/ Once that is through I will have version 1.0 of this FAQ. :D 6/15/2002 - Version 0.4 Added some more stuff, like the About section. Edited and added other things to my existing sections. 6/13/2002 - Version 0.25 Added Characters and Throwing Weapons sections. So far the Ice Spellbook section is complete. Started the Walkthrough section. 6/12/2002 - Version 0.1 Got Castlevania : Concerto of Midnight Sun today, and started playing it. Became awed at the awesome SotN style graphics. Started this FAQ. ^^ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ABOUT ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is my first time submitting writing a FAQ for a game. I have always wanted to write one and send it to the backbone of the gaming community, GameFAQs. I have been a fan of the Castlevania series for a few years and have managed to play most of the games, even the rare ones and learn a lot about the series. My name is Justin Smith, I am 15 years old from North Carolina, USA, and my interests are computers and video games. I couldn't stand to be seperated from them. My favorite game series are Final Fantasy, Castlevania, Wild Arms, and Tekken and all other good games by Squaresoft, Konami and Namco. My talent is webdesigning, I love to do it, designing webpages and graphics for lots of people. I also like drawing and martial arts. I have a personal blog/journal that you can read if you want to at http://www.underclocked.com/~jasukan After this FAQ, I will try to write even more FAQs and join the group of dedicated gamers that have done so. I hope you like this FAQ and find it helpful to you. ^^ I created this FAQ in DevPad, a very good I like (and it's freeware), it tells you the number of the column you are at while editing a file, so it's easy to line things up in a .txt file. :) You can also edit other types of files in with syntax highlighting, if you're a programmer or something. Get it at http://www.developerspad.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WALKTHROUGH ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THE BEGINNING Reccomended Level : 1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- You and your friend Maxim stand at the entrance to Castlevania. Maxim suddenly falls ill for some reason and you must go without him. Go foward and soon you will notice a big giant heap of metal. Jump on top of it and go to the other side and then touch the right of the screen. The metal will move and reveal itself as a huge monster. Keep walking to the right dodging it's attacks. Don't try to fight it, that doesn't work. Soon you will be at a drawbridge, go across it and the bridge will move and the creature will fall. Now enter Castlevania... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ENTRANCE Reccomended Level : 1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ITEMS : LEATHER ARMOR, POTION x 2, HEART MAX UP, LEATHER BOOTS, LIFE MAX UP, SOUL ORB ENEMIES : BAT, ZOMBIE, SKELETON, ARMOR KNIGHT Whip the two candles and get the hearts. Note that behind the curtains you can see a floating creature. Hit the statue of the woman with your whip, which will cause it to break. The platform above it will fall down and you can walk up it. Now you come to a bookshelf, jump on top of it and then jump to the right and go to the next room. Grab the LEATHER ARMOR to the right and equip it. Go to the left and up to the next room and grab the POTION. Continue through the room then go to the side of the room where the ARMOR KNIGHT is. Watch out for his spear attacks and defeat him, then continue up the next set of stairs and go to the right to grab another POTION. Now go to the left and keep going upward until you reach another room. In the left room lies a SAVE POINT. Use these to recover your HP and save your game. Next, go out of the room and continue right, picking up the HOLY WATER. Then jump up to the next room and get the HEART MAX UP. Don't bother going to the left, unless you want to fight some ARMOR KNIGHTS, you can't do anything over there yet. Come back to the bottom of the room where you obtained the LEATHER ARMOR and go back down to the bookshelf and go to the right. You will see another bookshelf that you can jump on leading to another room. Go up it and get the LEATHER BOOTS. Continue right, hit the candle to get the FIST. Continue to the right and obtain the SOUL ORB. This relic displays the damage you do to an enemy when you hit it. Go back to left and go down back to where you came from the bookshelf. Go to the right again, you can equip the DAGGER but I don't reccomend it, it's pretty weak. Continue right, killing ZOMBIEs and you'll notice a hole in the floor with a small platform above it. Drop down it. You can equip the BIBLE here if you want. Get the LIFE MAX UP. Go back up and to the left again and exit the room and come back to the bookshelf room. Take the leftmost bookshelf that you first went up again and go up the rooms until you get to the SAVE POINT again. Save your game and then continue directly right and enter the Corridor of Marble. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CORRIDOR OF MARBLE (Part 1) Reccomended Level : 3 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ITEMS : CASTLE MAP 1, HEART MAX UP, ICE SPELLBOOK, RED STONE, POTION ENEMIES : BAT, MEDUSA HEAD, FLEAMAN, SKELETON SOLDIER Keep going right, be careful against the SKELETON SOLDIERs and go in the next room. You see an encounter between Juste and Death. Juste seems to get ticked off here and tries to fight him but Death vanishes and laughs. Continue right. Jump over the hole in the next room and grab the CASTLE MAP 1. This lets you see the rest of the castle map (SELECT). Rooms you haven't discovered yet will be in a darker shade of gray. Continue up the sets of stairs while killing ARMOR KNIGHTs and go to the left to the next room. Go to the left and you will see a wooden crate. Get on the left of it and walk towards it and you will gradually move it. Then go down and push it to the left until it reaches a wall. Now jump on the crate and you can get up there. Get past the ARMOR KNIGHTs and keep climbing the flights of stairs and go into the room at the left. Grab the HEART MAX UP, and your very first spellbook, the ICE SPELLBOOK. Now open your menu (START) and go to the SPELLBOOK menu. Turn the ICE SPELLBOOK on. Now whenever you press Up + B with Juste, he will cast a magic spell instead of throwing a weapon, depending on what throwing weapon he has equipped, taking some MP. HOLY WATER and BIBLEs work well with it IMO. Now go back out, and go back out of the next room. Now go to the right entrance. Make your way down the room and to the next room. Watch out for FLEAMEN, whip twirls work good here. Go up the hole in the celling to the next room and to the left there is a SAVE POINT. Go back out. You can go in the hole in the celling to the next room to get a BIBLE. There's nothing you can do here yet though, so come back down and go to the right, watch out for MEDUSA HEADs. Be sure to grab the LEATHER GLOVEs and equip them. In the next room keep going to the right while staying at the top of the room, and get the RED STONE. Equip this to your whip. Now go to the bottom of the room and take the left door and meet your first boss... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- GIANT BAT Reccomended Level : 4 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HP : 400 EXP : 66 This monster isn't all that hard. You can hit the fireballs he spits at you with your whip and destroy them. Jump at him using whip attacks. When he gets ready to dive into the ground (he'll stop moving for a while) go to the floor and get out of the way some. As soon as he hits the ground start whipping him constantly, you can probaly get 5 attacks in, 6 if you're lucky. Just don't let him wing slap you when he gets up. This is about all you need to know to kill this boss. If you want to finish him off quickly or if you are in danger of losing, use your spells. It's up to you how you want to kill this boss. :) After you beat him, you will notice an orb fall to the ground. If you are new to Castlevania, these are a freebie that restore your HP. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go to the room to the right of where you killed the GIANT BAT boss earlier and go down the hole to your right get the FAIRY JOURNAL. This nifty tool displays the name of the monster you are currently fighting. Now go back in and take the left exit out and go to the room right after where you met Death. Go to the bottom left of the room and drop down the room and get the POTION in here. Now go to the left room... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ROOM OF ILLUSION (Part 1) Reccomended Level : 5 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ITEMS : LIFE MAX UP, BANDANA ENEMIES : LIZARDMAN, MEDUSA HEAD Watch out for the LIZARDMEN in here. Go to the very left of the room and get the LIFE MAX UP then go back out. Take the right room, and keep going down the room while fighting MEDUSA HEADs and get the BANDANA and equip it. Go back to the top and make your way out of the room. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CORRIDOR OF MARBLE (Part 2) Reccomended Level : 5 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ITEMS : ANTIDOTE x 2, HEART MAX UP, POTION, LIFE MAX UP ENEMIES : BAT, MEDUSA HEAD, FLEAMAN, SKELETON SOLDIER, VICTORY ARMOR Go back to the room to the right of where you killed the GIANT BAT boss again. Go directly to the right to the next room. Go up the stairs and jump on the first platform you come to and go to the left and keep going up the room and get the ANTIDOTE. You can't get the HEART MAX UP yet though. However, if you keep going to up the steps there is one you can get to the right. Go back to the left and down and jump off the platform and take go further up the stairs. Then go down and there is a storage area, get the POTION and ANTIDOTE. Go back up and take the room to the right. Be careful against the VICTORY ARMOR enemy, he has alot of HP and hits hard. Make sure your MP is full or at high and go all out on him with spells. Then get the LIFE MAX UP. You can't go through the door to the right yet, so go back out. Go back to the room to the right of the GIANT BAT boss. Go down the hole to your right where you got the FAIRY JOURNAL earlier, and go to the door on the right... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- APPROACH OF DEPLORE Reccomended Level : 6 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ITEMS : MANA PRISM, POTION x 2, OPAL, MEAT x 2, CIRCLE OF ENERGY, LIFE MAX UP x 2, HEART MAX UP ENEMIES : GHOST, ROCK ARMOR, LIZARDMAN, VICTORY ARMOR, BONE PILLAR Go to the right, and drop down the opening. Watch out for GHOSTs and ROCK ARMOR and go to your right to the next room and get the MONSTER TOME. Now go to your left. Go to the area at the top and grab the MANA PRISM, it looks like a Dr. Mario pill, heh. It recovers MP. Take the next room to the left and grab the POTION at the top. Keep a safe distance from BONE PILLARs when fighting them. Go to the left, drop down and go to the right and go to the next room. Drop down the hole and go through the next room and get the POTION at the right in the next room. Turn left and drop down the next hole. Watch out for LIZARDMEN down here. Drop down the next hole, to the right and jump up the 3 platforms. Grab the OPAL and MEAT in this room. Go up the next room and to the right, defeat the VICTORY ARMOR and go to the right and drop down, obtaining the CIRCLE OF ENERGY whip piece. This spins the whip for you automatically when you hold B. You can choose to equip this if you want, although the RED STONE has more attack power, and you can twirl without it. Jump back to the room where you killed the VICTORY ARMOR and go back out of this room and the next one. Keep going to the left, jump on the little brown box and jump up on the platform, go down the stairs and to the left to the next room. Go to the left and up the sets of stairs while killing BONE PILLARs. Get to the top of the room and go left to the next room. Keep going to the left, and get the CROSS throwing weapon. Turn your spellbook off, the weapon is a lot more powerful without it. Be careful against the WHITE DRAGON, attack him from a safe distance, you can whip his fireballs and destroy them. Get the LIFE MAX UP, and go back to the right and drop down the hole. To the right is a SAVE POINT, so save your game. Go to the left and meet Maxim. He seems dazed at first, then he has a conversation with you and runs off. Now go through the left door... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LIVING ARMOR Reccomended Level : 7 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HP : 900 EXP : 110 This is a boss battle? HA! LIZARDMEN are tougher then this guy. He is very easy. He only has one attack, which is easily anticipated. Dash away when he tries to hit you with his sword. Then dash back in and use Crosses/Spellbooks and whip attacks, if you hit him a lot, he'll stumble a few steps back, pitiful. Oh well, keep it up and he'll die soon. You didn't even need my help. :) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Anyways, go to the left and get the LIZARD'S TAIL relic. This allows you to slide under walls with small openings at the bottom to get to the other side. You can also damage enemies while sliding. Step on the switch to the left and go back out of the room where you came from. Remember the room before where you got the MEAT and OPAL? If you go back there, you can slide under the wall to the right and get the LIFE MAX UP now. Open the map, see the area you haven't covered in the northeast that's closest to you? Go there. Get the MEAT in the room where the BIG GHOST is and continue to the next room at right and get the HEART MAX UP. Now leave the Approach of Deplore and go back to the Corridor of Marble. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CORRIDOR OF MARBLE (Part 3) Reccomended Level : 8 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ITEMS : None ENEMIES : BAT, MEDUSA HEAD, FLEAMAN, SKELETON SOLDIER Go back to the hole you could drop down that takes you to the Room of Illusion, go there. Take the left room where you had got the LIFE MAX UP, and slide under the wall. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- TELEPORTER Reccomended Level : 8 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ITEMS : CHARM ENEMIES : NONE Pick up the CHARM item. I reccomend equipping it, it increases your Luck a whole lot, so you have a greater chance of doing critical hits and having enemies drop special items. Now press up while standing infront of what looks like a portal. You are teleported to somewhere else, although it looks like the same room, and Juste says something, he seems suprized. Ok, go out of the room now. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CASTLE'S TREASURY Reccomended Level : 8 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ITEMS : POTION, LIFE MAX UP, WRIST BAND, UNCURSE, CASTLE MAP 2 ENEMIES : SKELETON RIB, SKELETON BLAZE, KARASUMAN, ECTOPLASM, SKELETON, FLAIL GUARD Watch out for SKELETON RIBs, duck when fighting them or whip their boomerangs, they give good EXP too (hint hint). Go to the room at the right and get the POTION. Continue going upward. Take the room on the left. Drop down the hole, and beat the KARASUMAN and get the LIFE MAX UP. Go back up out of the room and keep going left past the SKELETON BLAZEs. Take the next room and get the WRIST BAND. It's not all that special though, keep the CHARM equipped. Keep going down and be careful against the FLAIL GUARD, he hits hard and grab the UNCURSE potion at the right. Keep going down and into the next room. Get the HEART MAX UP at the left room and go back out. There is a SAVE POINT at the room to the right, save your game. Go back up to where you came from and go out of this room. Go back out of the room where you met the SKELETON BLAZEs. Now take the room to the right. Cool scenery here, eh? Drop down the hole here and keep dropping down the next room. Slide under the wall and jump up and go to the left and up again. Fight the GATE GUARD, constantly attack it and make it walk backwards to the right, knock him off the edge and he'll tumble down the stairs and crash into the big boulder that was blocking your way and destroy it. Now go through there and meet the merchant. Him and Juste will talk some, and then you can use the shop. Buy the CASTLE MAP 2 here, this lets you view more of the castle map. Stock up on some POTIONs too, incase you are in danger of getting killed. Now leave, and go back out of the next room. Keep going to the right while fighting PEEPING EYEs, BOMB ARMOR, and ZOMBIEs. Jump up the 3 platforms you come to up to the next room. Keep going up while fighting SKELETONs and ECTOPLASMs. Get the CROSS ARMOR, equip it, and go back out of the room. Go to the right, drop down the hole, make your way pasts BOMB ARMOR and PEEPING EYEs and get the CHAIR DECORATION collectible at the very left. Now go back to the right some and drop down the hole. Keep going to the right while killing ECTOPLASM and FLAIL GUARDs. You know, I can make the retarded noise of a FLAIL GUARD dying. Anyways, drop down the hole in this room and keep dropping down to the very bottom of this room (don't go through the 2 doors yet) and go to the left. This is Juste's room, you will see him talk and put the CHAIR DECORATION item you got in here. Anyways, go back out and keep going up back to the first two doors you see and take the left entrance. Go through this room and take the door at the left. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CAVE OF SKELETONS Reccomended Level : 11 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ITEMS : FOOT GUARDER, TABLE, MOUNTED DEER, SYLPH'S FEATHER, HEART MAX UP, LIFE MAX UP ENEMIES : SKELETON, SKELETON SPEAR, SKELETON RIB, SKELETON APE, BLOOD SKELETON, SKELETON SOLDIER, SKELETON SPIDER, BONE PILLAR, PARANTHROPUS, THROW MASTER, FLYING SKELETON Don't get the FIST from the candle, still keep your CROSS if you have it, it is the best throwing weapon in the game, IMO. Anyways, keep goind down while knocking the weak skeletons aside and go to the next room. Go to the right and knock the SKELETON SPIDER out of the way, you can kill him if you want a EXP boost. Go to the top and get the FOOT GUARDER and equip it. Now go back and go to the left room and watch out for SKELETON SPEARs. Go to the top left and pick up the TABLE collectible. Drop down and go to the left. See that big giant skull there? To the left side of it and hit it with your whip, it will cause it to tumble down and hit a wall, that you can now get up to. Anyways, keep going, to the right and down and to the next room. Beat the SKELETON APE (Donkey Kong, anyone?) and walk up the giant fossil and go to the right. Whip the branches to make the fossil fall down so you can go up it. Go to the top right and get the MOUNTED DEER collectible. Go to the left and go through the room at the left, watch out for the swinging blade, jump over it and meet Maxim again. He seems to have turned on Juste, and then runs off. Get through the next room, while fighting SKELETON RIBs and BLOOD SKELETONs and take the next room. There is a SAVE POINT here, save and go through the room at the left, make your way through the next room, and go through the glowing blue door. Yep, you guessed it, another boss battle. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SKULL KNIGHT Reccomended Level : 11 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HP : 1600 EXP : 339 You will see a shield in the middle of the floor wiggle and then the SKULL KNIGHT will get up and reveal himself. Get out of the way of his jumping attacks and keep whipping him or using throwing weapons/spells. When you see him holding up his sword as it sparkles get out of the way, he's about ready to stab at you. Sometimes, he'll kneel down and block attacks with his shield. Just wait for him to get back up. If he has you cornered, slide through him to the other side. Soon, you'll hit him enough and his sword will fly out of his hand. Despite him losing his sword, he still has his shield and he is more deadly this time. If you see him stand still and start glowing, he's about to ram into you at high speed. Jump on a platform to safely dodge it. Or if you think you're bad enough, you can jump over him to the other side, although you risk getting hurt this way. After a while, he will lose his shield too. Now he will start shooting laser beams. Get near him, and when he's about to shoot one, duck and whip him constantly. Soon he will be defeated. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go to the left and grab the SYLPH'S FEATHER. This enables you to double jump (press A twice). Go back to the SAVE POINT and save. Go back to where you fought the SKELETON SPIDER and got the FOOT GUARDER. Go to the bottom there and to the left and get the POTION at the top. Then go to the next room and go to the right and kill the next SKELETON SPIDER (you can repeatedly jump kick this monster for fun) and go through this room. Keep going up while destroying BONE PILLARs and double jump to get the HEART MAX UP at the top. Now go back to the SAVE POINT and save. Go to the left. Climb the stairs in this room and double jump up to the platform you see and jump to the next room. Keep going to the right and kill the PARANTHORPUS and THROW MASTERs until you get to a room where you can drop down. Drop down and get the LIFE MAX UP and go back up and keep going to the left, past where you fought the PARANTHORPUS and take the two next rooms. Watch out for FLYING SKELETONs, they can shoot arrows at you. Go down and to the next room and hit the branches with your whip to make the rock fall down. Jump on it and throw a cross or jump and whip at the two THROW MASTERs, it may be tough to get past them for you. Keep going up and get the LEATHER CAP. Now go back to the beginning of the cave and leave. When you get outside, take the door to your right. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MOSS GROWN CAVE Reccomended Level : 14 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ITEMS : UNCURSE, HEART MAX UP, HI-POTION, SILVERWARE, POTION, LIFE MAX UP ENEMIES : AXE ARMOR, BAT, ECTOPLASM, WITCH, SIREN, STONE ROSE, SKELETON APE, THROW MASTER, SLIME, BONE PILLAR Go right to the next room while killing AXE ARMOR and BATs. Now here's a little trick. Hit the first candle in here to get an UNCURSE. You can get unlimited UNCURSEs here if you want, just keep reentering the room. Keep going up the room and to the next. Take the first room that leads up and keep heading up and grab the TURQUOISE, think of it as 200 Gold. Now exit and keep going to the right, watch out for STONE ROSEs, the stones they spit can bounce towards you. Go down the hole you come to and go to the next room in here. Go right and collect the HEART MAX UP. Go left, and down to the next room. Keep going down and get the HI-POTION here. Don't go through the teleporter yet, we'll come back here later. Now exit out of this room and the two before that to where the STONE ROSE monsters were. Go to the room at the right and to the next room after that. Keep going straight to the right to the next room and save your game here. Continue on and in this room go up and get the STATUE collectible and MANA PRISM. You can't open the stone door yet though. Now go back down and to the first room on the right that you see. Go to the bottom right and kill the STONE ROSE to get an UNCURSE. Now go to the left, and beat the BOMB ARMORs and get the POTION. Now exit out of this room and go to the bottom. Keep going left here, and go down the hole and go the right. Watch out for SLIMEs here, one can Poison you, one can Curse you, and one can even Stone you, which is bad. Use UNCURSEs or ANTIDOTEs if you appen to get hit. If you don't have any, it'll go away after a while. Go to the next room, be sure to get the SILVERWARE collectible here. Continue and in the next room, go to the bottom and to the right room, there is a Merchant here. Stock up on POTION, ANTIDOTE, and UNCURSE here. Now exit and go up to the top room. Push the crate off the right of the platform and move it to the bottom of the room on the switch. Go in the next room to get the LIFE MAX UP and then exit. Ok, remember the teleporter we saw earlier? Go back to there, if you don't remember where it is, it's the yellow colored square on your map. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CORRIDOR IN THE AIR Reccomeded Level : 16 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ITEMS : HI-POTION, LIFE MAX UP, CANDLE, X-POTION, DARK GLASSES, FACE GUARD, HINT CARD 2, CHAOS RING ENEMIES : BALLOON POD, BIG BALLOON, FLYING SKELETON, SKELETON ARCHER, WHITE DRAGON, RULER SWORD As you go in, you will soon see Maxim and you will have a long talk with him. Continue onward, don't let the BALLOON PODs poison you. You have to keep being on the move in this place, since there are a lot of FLYING SKELETONs that can throw arrows at you. Go down the sets of stairs and drop down the platform at the bottom and you can get a LIFE MAX UP at the left. Go up the room and get the HI-POTTION. Take the stairs up the room, get the ANTIDOTE at the top, then go to where the BIG BALLOON is, defeat it, and take the right room. Go up, slide under the wall near the SKEELTON ARCHERs and jump up to the room at the very top right. Get the CANDLE collectible here at the top and go to the right, watch out for the WHITE DRAGON and get the X-POTION. Exit and drop down to the very bottom right of this room. Go in and save. Now go back up to the glowing blue door and meet your next boss. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DEVIL Reccomended Level : 17 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HP : 2176 EXP : 627 This monster hovers around the screen and has a variety of attacks. If he starts to shoot a laser beam at you, the best thing to do is just walking away from it obviously. When he lands on the ground, if you see his arm gathering energy, he's about to swing at you, get out of the way. If you see him open his mouth, he's about to shoot missles at you, get near him, duck, and whip at him. And most importantly, don't make body contact with him, it will Curse you. This boss can be pretty tough, especially if you accidently touch him and get Cursed. Use spells and healing items if you have to. Once you defeat him go to the next room. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Get the DARK GLASSES at the top. Now go back to where you just fought the DEVIL boss and go back to where you saved your game. Exit and drop down the hole at the bottom. Now go to the left. Watch out for the RULER SWORD, it's weapons will sneak up and corner you. Use spellbooks. Go to the left and drop down the next room. Drop down and get the FACE GUARD. Continue foward, watch out for spikes! Drop down to the next room, go to the right and slide under the wall and get the HINT CARD 2. Now go left, and slide under the platform with spikes to get the CHAOS RING. This improves the power of the HOLY WATER throwing weapon. Go back out of the dark rooms back outside. I also reccomend that you go to the right and grab the HOLY WATER if you don't already have one and equip your CHAOS RING and make sure you have no spellbooks on. Go back to the save point and save. From there exit and take the room at the top right where you got the CANDLE collectible. Go there again and you can get a STONE CANDLE. Go out of this room and then go left and go up to the next one. Go left and into the Heretic's Grave. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HERETIC'S GRAVE Reccomended Level : 18 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ITEMS : ANTIDOTE, HEART MAX UP, VERDANT MANTLE, LIFE MAX UP, POTION ENEMIES : SKELETON ARCHER, THROW MASTER, FLEMAN, FLYING SKELETON, BONE PILLAR Keep going through all of these rooms, be sure to grab the ANTIDOTE on your way. When you get in what looks like a church, go to the right and up. Get the HEART MAX UP, then go to the left and up the stairs. Get the VERDANT MANTLE and continue going up the stairs and get the LIFE MAX UP and POTION. Now exit the church and the Heretic's Grave. Next, go to the area where everything was dark. Put on your DARK GLASSES and go through there and to the Waterway of Aquatic. Get past the MERMANs in the next room, be careful they hit hard. In the next room, get the HEART MAX UP at the left. Now go to the right and drop down the hole. Watch out for the SLIMEs in here, just jump over them or something. In the next room, get the HARD LEATHER GLOVE at the top. Don't go down the room, go back, unless you just want to cover more map percentage or something. When you get back to the room where the MERMANs were, take the room at the right. When you have killed four of the MERMANs in here, watch out for the blades at the celling, they come falling down if you walk under them, so dash through. Get the BLUE STONE, it makes your whip do Ice-elemental damage. Equip it, the monsters here are weak against Ice. Exit this room, and jump up to the next one. There is a save point to the left, I hope I don't have to tell you to save your game by now. Now go to the blue door at the right to fight the king of the MERMANs. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- GIANT MERMAN Reccomended Level : 20 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HP : 3520 EXP : 1298 Be sure that you still have your BLUE STONE equipped to your whip, it will make things quicker. Just keep whipping him and jump over any flames he sends your way. When he curls up into a ball, jump on a platform and he will spin by you. He can call MERMANs to aid him in battle, destroy these quickly. After a while, he will be gone. Now exit to the next area. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In here, get the LIFE MAX UP and HEART MAX UP. Before you continue, go back and kill some MERMANs. They give good EXP and drop POTIONs too sometimes, try to get as many as you can in your inventory. Equipping a CHARM will increase the rate of them appearing. You need to build up a good bit for the next level, the enemies there are deadly. When you are at least at Level 25 go back to where the GIANT MERMAN was and go through that room. Now go through the door and go to the Clockwork Tower. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CLOCKWORK TOWER Reccomended Level : 25 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ITEMS : HEART MAX UP, CASTLE MAP 3, BURGONET, HINT CARD 4, LIFE MAX UP, STOOL ENEMIES : PARANTHORPUS, BONE PILLAR, FLEMAN, HARPY, MEDUSA HEAD, DISK ARMOR, RULER SWORD LV 2, WHITE DRAGON Go up through the room and through the first room on the left. Go up to the next room, step on the switch and watch out for SPECTREs, they hit hard. Continue onward, and through the next room. Jump on the pendelums to get across the room, and drop down the hole you come to. Get rid of the FLEAMEN, and get the CASTLE MAP 3. Now exit and go through the room on your left. Watch out for HARPYs, one can be underneath you when you jump to a lower place. Drop to the bottom and get the BURGONET. Now go up and take the topmost room to your right. Get the HINT CARD 4 at the top. Now go out, and drop to the next room at your right. In here, jump up the next room to get a LIFE MAX UP. Now go out and go right and drop down the next room. Go to your right and to the next room. Go up and take the first room on your right. Drop down and get the STOOL collectible. Then go up to the topmost room at the right. Go through this room, then fight the GUARDIAN creature that has the shield. Keep on making him stumble backwards, and he'll violently get crushed in some gears. His remains will spew out which are armor that you can pick up. Equip all the GUARDIAN equipment. Now go out of both rooms, then go to the room on your left and head up. To the right is a save point. When you are through saving, continue up and take the glowing blue door at the right to fight your next boss. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MAX SLIMER Reccomended Level : 26 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HP : 3680 EXP : 1479 This boss is as easy as the Living Armor. Just don't let him touch you or you become Poisioned. Don't worry if the little blobs hit you, they will only do like 1 damage, and they don't poison you. Just keep hitting the big slime, and using throwing weapons or spellbooks on it. The smaller it is, the closer it is to being destroyed. If he jumps on the celling just continue hitting him, you'll win soon. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Go to the next room, and go up and to the room at the left. Get the GREEN STONE, it does Wind-elemental damage. Then exit and go to the next room at the top. Meet up with Death and he will tell you about the second castle. But I promise to have more soon so check back often! ^^ ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- CHARACTERS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Juste Belmont Age : 16 This is the main character that you start with in the game. He is a descendant of the legendary Belmont family, who wields the Vamprire Killer whip, a sacred family legacy that has been passed through each generation. He looks sorta like Alucard and Richter from CV : SotN and has a lot of magical powers. He has more of the Belnades blood (line of vampire hunters with magical powers) then the Belmonts before him. He is the grandson of Simon Belmont. B/F Walk D Crouch A Jump A x 2 Double Jump D, U + A Super Jump D + A Slide D + A (after Jump Kick Double or Triple jump) B Whip attack Hold B + U/D/B/F Twirls whip. Here you can view your stats, and equip or use items. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Maxim Kishine Age : 18 ? Maxim is obviously Juste's partner whom you see at the beginning of the game. He uses a sword, and kinda looks like a pirate. You can play as Maxim after you beat the game. Once you beat the game, make a new file and enter MAXIM as your name. B/F Walk D Crouch A Jump A x 2 Double Jump A x 3 Triple Jump A + Hold U + A Spinning Jump (Hold A and use direction buttons to move) D + A Slide D + A (after Jump Kick Double or Triple jump) B Sword attack (Kicks when crouched) U + B Throw Star Shuriken L Dash Left R Dash Right U, D, Right + B Restores all of your HP B, F, D, U + B Two dopplegangers fly across the screen attacking enemies ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Simon Belmont Age : 25 ? (When he fought Dracula) The legendary vampire hunter who is the grandfather of Juste. After you beat the game and unlock Boss Mode you can play as Simon from the original Castlevania (NES). From, what I've seen, this girl looks like a servant or something and may be related to Juste or Maxim or the lover of one of them. Or maybe she is just their friend. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dracula Age : Around 800 The main villan in the Castlevania series. He is the owner of Castlevania and has been resurrected many times to try and cause chaos on the world. It is up to you to stop the evil demon. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Death Age : Eternal The owner of Hell and Dracula's right hand man. He carries a giant and deadly scythe and resembles a skeleton dressed in a cloak. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- THROWING WEAPONS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ever since the first encounter with Dracula, the Belmonts not only relied on their whips to get them through but also weapons with mystic powers that they could throw. They are each unique because some are good against certain enemies. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DAGGER 1 HEART Hurls a dagger foward at the enemy. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- AX 4 HEARTS Throws an ax at an upward arc, good for hitting enemies from above safely. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HOLY WATER 3 HEARTS Shoots a blaze of mystic flames across the ground. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ENDINGS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There is a total of three endings you can get in this game... 1 : Beat Maxim in Castle B without equipping the Juste and Maxim rings. Juste destroys Castlevania, but was unable to save Maxim or Lydie. 2 : Beat Maxim in Castle A. Just destroys Castlevania, but was unable to save Maxim. 3 : Equip the Juste's Ring and Maxim's Ring and beat Maxim in Castle B. Then beat Dracula. Juste manages to destroy Castlevania while saving both this time. :) There is also the endings you can get from Boss Rush mode by beating it on Hard mode with Juste, Maxim, or Simon. To play Boss Rush Mode on Hard mode, beat it in Normal once. Juste : ? Maxim : ? Simon : The ending scene from the original NES Castlevania appears with the words "Simon Belmont Forever" ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- STATUS EFFECTS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Some monsters in CoMS have the ability to cause negative status effects to you. It's a good idea to keep a lot of items to remedy them handy incase such a situation ever occurs. The good thing though, is that they will go away after a while. POISON - You will gradually lose HP. CURSE - Your walking speed is greatly reduced, and you can't dash. STONE - Your character turns into the stone and won't be able to move, allowing enemies to hit him. Press the left and right buttons on your controller pad to make the stone crumble and get out of this mess. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MERCHANT SHOPS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Just like in other games in the Castlevania series (SotN and Simon's Quest), you can collect Gold and purchase items with it, such as healing items and armor. However, these merchant shops only appear under certain conditions. You will notice sometimes, that if you go in a room where a merchant is supposed to be, he won't be there sometimes and there will be some numbers at the bottom right of the screen. These determine if he is there or not and are explained below. (Heart)02468 - Your number of hearts must be even. L13579 - Your level must be odd. ??? - Your level must be 50 or more. And there is one shop near the pinball room that won't open unless you use the Midday Constellation. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SECRETS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is a list of the secrets and cheats I have heard about this game from various sources. If you have beat the game, and think you have found out all there is to know about the game, you might want to check these out. Juste has a healing move. To get it, you can't have no throwing weapons equipped. Let a monster such as MIMICERs or KINGs (#59 and #62) steal your throwing weapon. Then equip the Summon spellbook and press Up+B and Juste can heal now. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------
