Having just come off of really enjoying Magical Melody, I had to stop by Natsume and check out the Harvest Moon DS game. While it was originally intended to come out at the same time as MM, I for one would rather see a game delayed than come out incomplete, especially one as text-heavy as a Harvest Moon game, so I don't mind the delay. I grabbed a DS and began a new game; all of the story was skipped and I jumped right into the game.

First and foremost, having two screens is an absolute godsend to this game. The action is always going on the top screen while the bottom screen acts like an open menu. An eye can be constantly kept on your backpack, a definite plus, and tools are very simple to switch in and out by holding the L button and swapping back and forth between the different tools.

New to the series is the ability for items to stack; this includes all harvested items such as fruits and vegetables, as well as collectable items like lumber, flowers, and other plants. This is a huge boon, considering how easy it has been in previous titles to run out of space simply by taking a trip to the mountains to harvest items that grow in the wild.

Many familiar faces return on the DS game, such as Potpourri, along with new women never before seen in the series. Much like Friends of Mineral Town, the main character is male and there is no option to choose a female lead, however there's always hope for a Harvest Moon DS for Girls. Overall, the game plays in a similiar fashion to the other portable titles and those that enjoy a good Harvest Moon game should be very pleased when they get their hands on this gem later on this year.
