Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Impression

Being a complete Star Wars fanboy, I went straight to the Xbox version of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic at the Microsoft booth. The game is still early in development, but the potential of the title is already fully realized, even in this early build. I wandered through a hallway fighting droids and guards, deflecting their shots automatically with my lightsabre and jumping into the air and crushing them with elegant yet mighty blows. The fighting picked up as I took on a Sith-trained grunt, and while my character could not begin to think of matching Yoda move-for-move, the battle was quite exciting.

The gameplay is very fluid, as most commands simply utilized the 'A' button. Many of the abilities were not available in the demo. The Microsoft represenative said the game has eight different worlds and 40-50 hours of gameplay. You can have two characters with you, and a total of ten to twelve on your ship. The story lets you choose the dark side or the Jedi way depending on your actions, and while there is a set story with two different endings, the way you get to the end is much more free than other RPGs.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is one of the first games to fully blur the lines between PC and console RPGs, and has a lot of potential to be a stellar hit for LucasArts this holiday season.
