First, I apologize for there not being any reviews this week. I decided to take a couple
weeks off from writing reviews and just relax for a while. Now that I got that out of my system
we should be good to go for next time. Just a reminder, the contest is winding down, and if you
have not submitted your monster yet, there is still time. The number of entries is lower than we
expected, so that will increase your chances of winning, if you do enter.
Aside from a couple news items this week, being that it is the first week of October I've updated
the release list to reflect October releases. I am thinking of dropping the release list entirely.
Instead the column would focus on a few items each month with previews of select upcoming products.
Tell me what you think by sending me an email.
In completely unrelated news, I've spent the last week driving around a Mercedes-Benz G500. For
a $86K (starting price) vehicle, it sucks, and is very impratical. It is generally a bad thing when
the only good things you can say about a car are the heated seats and the moon roof. I feel sorry
for anyone who actually buys one.

Create-A-Monster Contest Continues
|
|
Ever fancied yourself a master monster creator? Ever built a monster
solely for the thrill of the TPK? Now is your chance to use that skill to score yourself
some loot. Simply submit your monster, template, or new race to
savingthrow@rpgamer.com.
Be sure to include stats, a sample monster, a detailed description and any other information
such as tactics, ecology and lore regarding the monster. Sketches are not necessary, but
feel free to include them. The Saving Throw staff will narrow the submissions down to seven
and then our guest celebrity judges, Erik Mona and James Jacobs, will choose a grand prize
winner and a runner up. We have a copy of Expedition to the Ruins of
Greyhawk, autographed by the three authors; Erik Mona, James Jacobs and Jason Bulmahn,
and the other prize we have is a copy of Shadowdale: The Scouring of the Land. The
grand prize winner has his or her choice of which title they want.
Rules:
1. All submitted materials must be submitted by October 7th at 11:59:59 PM PDT.
2. All submitted materials must conform to OGL/3.5 rules.
3. By submitting an entry in this contest, you give RPGamer the right to post said
materials on www.rpgamer.com.
4. Winners will be notified via email on or before October 15th, 2007.
5. Winners must respond by within three business days, or another winner will be selected.
6. Judges decisions are final.
7. This contest is open to anyone with a valid email address and valid mailing address,
except for the employees of RPGamer and their immediate families, and the celebrity judges
and their immediate families.

Gen Con Indy wraps up 2007 with record attendance
|
|
Gen Con Indy wraps up its 40th year with a record attendance and
milestones in incredible gameplay! Gen Con was attended by 27,000 unique and 91,000
turnstile attendees who converged on Indianapolis to make this year's Gen Con the most
successful to date. Both figures represent a significant increase over 2006 attendance,
a spike largely attributed to new initatives including the incorporation of a business
and education focused Trade Day, increased participation from computer and video game
companies and, a dedicated area for family-friendly gaming, the Family Fun Pavilion.
"What can I say but thank you to all of our incredible attendees and exhibitors who
support Gen Con year in and year out and make it what it is today. We knew that this
year would be a great show and without a doubt it did not disappoint us," said Peter D.
Adkinson, gaming mogul and CEO of Gen Con. "We look forward to Indy 2008 as we take Gen
Con into its next 40 years!"
In addition to the gaming activity, attendees participated in a variety of events that
raised money for this year's charity Cristel House. Through their donations and participation
in the Art Auction, Klingon Jail-n-Bail, Aces to Aces, and Cardhalla, $11,531.00
was raised over the four day event.

WizKids Announces DC HeroClix: Crisis
|
|
WizKids has announced that DC HeroClix: Crisis will be the next DC HeroClix release. Crisis,
a loaded title for DC Comics fans, is a story that spans three decades and many earths and that has completely changed the DC universe.
DC Comics' Crisis on Infinite Earths storyline chronicles the multiverse-spanning battle between some of DC's most remarkable heroes -
including Superman, Batman, The Flash, Green Lantern, and Wonder Woman - and the evil Anti-Monitor, whose goal is the end of all existence.
Crisis on Infinite Earths was only the beginning of the story that has continued through popular titles such as Infinite Crisis,
Identity Crisis, and the current Final Crisis storyline. DC HeroClix: Crisis brings the fight to players with figures
from all of these DC titles.
"We had been looking for ways to make HeroClix relevant to current storylines when DC pitched the idea of a Crisis set to us,"
said Mark Tuttle, HeroClix brand manager. "The Crisis story is pivotal to every DC storyline. And it's just cool."
DC HeroClix: Crisis will release in February 2008 and will be supported with a robust Organized Play program. A companion product
releasing April 2008, the DC HeroClix Anti-Monitor Action Pack, will bring one of DC's most fearsome villains to the HeroClix game
table.

A funny thing happened on my way to finish this column, my daughter suffered her first major injury and resulted in
this being a little shorter than I had intended. She is okay, but she has quite a bit of a headache, and kept us up all
night. Makes me a little sleepy. So, with that, I bid you all good night, and remind you, you only have 2 days left to
get your monsters turned in.
Again, if you have any suggestions, ideas, or other things you think might improve the column,
just click on the email link below and send me an email.
