The Saving Throw
Dark Knight May 31, 2006
One annoying problem with fantasy worlds: you can't count on enemies to stay dead.

And so it begins. . .

Welcome to the last Saving Throw of May... somehow, the months just seem to fly by anymore. I mean, wasn't it just April?

Unfortunately, we weren't able to arrange the prizes for the contest so quickly, and thus I can't start the contest this week. I am hopeful for next week, but I can't make any promises yet. Meanwhile, this week is another all-me week, and this time, I just dug through my old roleplaying files. I found the Dark Knight class I once used for a Dungeons and Dragons campaign back in the day. (Note that it is for the second edition.) It is essentially the antithesis to the paladin, as you might expect with that name. I've also provided my second edition character sheet, because even though the provided character sheet for second edition isn't actually that bad, I believe I was able to improve upon it.

Today's featured story, by Eggman, was actually published in March, but since it didn't get its time in the limelight, the short but interesting story gets center stage today, as there were no hall of fame submissions published today. My inbox is still empty, so feel free to send your stories, guides, material, and reviews for next week.

And thus, with the introduction complete, the meat of the column begins.

Gaming Tip of the Week
"Whenever you can, use something you stole from the enemy to defeat them. It's more satisfying that way."

Featured Hall of Fame Story

Lich to Stone by Eggman Mar. 15, 2006
It's really irritating when you kill an annoying enemy and he or she just doesn't stay dead. Then again, sometimes this just gives you the opportunity to defeat him or her in a even more humiliating way.

Steve Jackson Games Ends Game Aids Program
Source: Steve Jackson Games

Steve Jackson Games had been operating a Game Aids program which reviewed fan-created game aids, whether stand-alone software or web pages, ensure they were usable, comprehensive, and in line with copyright and trademark considerations, and then certify and promote them. The program has been ended for two reasons. The first is that the editors found they didn't have the time to review these products; work on actual new products had to take priority. The second is that a decision was made that it wasn't appropriate to put fan-created work through a professional review process. They have changed their online policy to reflect this, though this article gives a summary of the new policy regarding fan-created material.

And so it ends. . .

Well, with a long intro, there should be a short outro, so have a great week and may you never take more than half damage. See you again next week.
