This cold month has come in and repeatedly buried us in snow, but the Saving Throw endures nonetheless. Macstorm brings us a contest entry this week after the chaos he caused last week. UFJ gets his chance to potentially claim the prize this week; let's see if he has better luck than Bainick. Otherwise, this is a normal week at the Saving Throw.

So, onto the column...

On Saturday, June 23rd, Impressions Advertising and Marketing will launch Free RPG Day. A select group of core hobby retailers will receive free quickstart guides and adventure modules to offer to their customers. "I really have to give the idea credit to Joseph Goodman at Goodman Games," Aldo Ghiozzi of Impressions said. "The thought was to just do another retailer-targeted promotion to push the Dungeon Crawl Classics line, but then I brought the idea up to some other Impressions clients and they wanted in." Mr. Ghiozzi hopes that it will eventually evolve into a true free game day where any gamer can get free games or exclusive add-ons to any hobby game. The hope is that it will bring more players into the tabletop gaming world.

Commitments to Free RPG Day have already been made by Troll Lord Games, Green Ronin Publishing, White Wolf Publishing, Mongoose Publishing, Chessex, and Skirmisher Publishing, not counting companies which have committed verbally but not yet officially.
