The Saving Throw
Save vs. Fear Jan. 19, 2006
One day... one day... I will successfully save vs. fear. Until then...

And so it begins. . .

Welcome to this week's Saving Throw, where my undernourished ego gets far more food than it can handle. I've tried to avoid it, but it has finally happened. Yes, that's right; this is an all-me update. I'm just as troubled by this as you are, I'm sure. I can only hope you will aid me in the future with more submissions to ensure something like this never happens again. We'll all be better off for it.

So, in this update, I deliver today's featured hall of fame story about what just might be the most creative adventure I have ever played in. I also deliver my next guide on diceless adventures, where I discuss planning and development of these adventures. On top of that, I have some news about the upcoming World of Warcraft Trading Card Game, with a little Dungeons and Dragons and Shadowrun news on the side.

And with that, as I've already written a lot today, it is time for me to stop blabbering and continue on to the column itself.

Tempora's Loop by Nwash New this week
Cities where time is broken are interesting places to visit, but not fun places to live. It can be hard to leave without fixing time, however. As usual, no good deed ever goes unpunished.

Blizzplanet Public Q&A Regarding World of Warcraft TCG Posted
Source: Blizzplanet

Blizzplanet posted a public question-and-answer session with Cory Jones, the Director of Brand and New Product Development at Upper Deck Entertainment regarding the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game coming out in spring of 2006. A transcript of the session is here.

Jones revealed many interesting tidbits about the game during the session. The game will include "loot" cards that will include a scratch off code providing a cosmetic alteration to a player's World of Warcraft MMORPG character. The game will have multiple rule-sets, allowing it to be played as a one-on-one dueling game, a multiplayer game, or utilizing a gamemaster multiplayer format. Upper Deck Entertainment is planning to have sanctioned tournaments for the game, and already had one planned for Salt Lake City. The decks used in the game are intended to represent a character with abilities and equipment in an effort to make the experience similar to other World of Warcraft games. The game is still currently in development, however, so features are still subject to change.

Wizards of the Coast Preparing Next Dungeons and Dragons Creature Competition
Source: Wizards of the Coast

Wizards of the Coast is accepting early suggestions for competitors to be featured in their third Dungeons and Dragons creature competition. This particular creature competition involves the creation of a new type of dragon. Suggestions are being accepted until the end of January; readers are being asked to submit a one or two paragraph description of a new type of dragon, along with a creative name.

Suggestions are currently being submitted via this message board thread on the official Dungeons and Dragons website.

New Shadowrun Meet and Greet Map on Frappr
Source: Shadowrun RPG

Anyone looking for Shadowrun players or gamemasters now has a new tool for finding them or allowing them to find you. A Shadowrun Meet and Greet map is now available on Google's new Frappr service, currently in beta testing. Most of the players and gamemasters shown are in North America or Europe, but there are some in other parts of the world as well. Shadowrun fans are encouraged to add themselves to the map.

And so it ends. . .

Anyway, with this week's column ended, I again ask for some submissions to prevent this tragedy from happening again. I'm sure there'll at least be a tilde in it for you, assuming I can find Wonderslime's infinite box of tildes... he hid it on me after the last time. I might have to improvise myself.

Until next time,

Shawn "Trapped in time" Bruckner
