  How Decadent : 02/09/01

[02/09/01] - I've been putting some serious hours into FFIX. Phew, I finally finished it, clocking in at about 64 hours after I did all the ending stuff. All I have to say is....well, you'll have to wait for my review. Muwah-haha ;). I'm also going to be writing a Valkyrie Profile review. I beat it on Easy Wednesday, but I think I'll play it through on normal first before sitting down to write a review.

In other news, I delivered over 50 resumes out this week. I figure I have about, oh, 4 or 5 chances. Not bad, actually. I just hope if I get a new job they'll give me the time off to go to E3. Yep, I'm planning on attending and not sleeping for 4 days straight. It will be so neat to get to meet all the other staffers. I've already promised Google a big squishy hug. Google now fears me, teeheehee.

So, what am I playing now since I've beaten FFIX? Well, I played Chocobo's Dungeon 2 for a bit...I'm on the 4th dungeon, a combo forest/ice mountain. It's pretty hard because it's so long. I've had to bail out a few times and I've died once too. Raar. Also as noted above I'm playing VP.

Today's Lesson: It's what's in the details!
Imagine, if you will, a pendulum. This pendulum swings to the far left, where there isn't enough detail within the review to truly convey to the reader what the game is all about. Now the pendulum swings to the far right, where there is so much detail that the reader is swallowed by it and loses focus. Now, the pendulum swings at the middle points, where there is a balance between frugality and detail. Try to balance what you're saying with how much you're saying and you'll find your reviews turn out better :).

Who would have thought people preferred reviewing retros so much more than newer games? I have to say I'm a bit surprised, but I guess people want to remember with fondness (or hate) their oldies. Welcome back to the illustrious Red Raven, whom finally got to pick the 3 games he wanted to borrow from me.
