Sega has announced a new title in the Valkyria Chronicles series, Valkyria Chronicles 4, which is confirmed for a worldwide release. The game is being developed for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch, with its release planned for sometime in 2018.
Unlike the previous title, Valkyria Revolution, Valkyria Chronicles 4 returns to the same setting as the original Valkyria Chronicles (as well as 2 and 3). The game takes place in the same timeframe as the first game, during the Second Europan War between the Atlantic Federation and Autocratic East Europan Imperial Alliance, but in a different part of the conflict and with a new cast of characters.
The game follows the exploits of Squad E of the Atlantic Federation as it embarks on Operation Northern Cross in a final attempt to win the war by capturing the imperial capital. The main protagonist is squad leader Claude Wallace. Three other characters have been shown: heavy weapons technician Riley Miller, Darcsen division officer Raz, and sniper prodigy Kai Schulen.
Valkyria Revolution 4 returns to the BLiTZ combat system used in the original three games, with various enhancements and new features such as the new Grenadier class, as well as larger maps than previous titles. The soundtrack will be composed by Hitoshi Sakimoto.
