Shortly after revealing that it plans to release The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel, The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II, and a new title in the series for PlayStation 4 in Japan in the next year, Nihon Falcom annoucned a release date for the first title's port. Dubbed Trails of Cold Steel I: Kai - Thors Military Academy 1204, the game will be released on March 8, 2018.
In addition to 60 frames-per-second and 4K resolutions, the PlayStation 4 version will include a high-speed skip option for both events and combat. The release will also be compatible with save files from the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita versions, letting players pick up where they left off, and will also provide bonuses for those with a Trails of Cold Steel III save file.
Trails of Cold Steel was originally released for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, with XSEED Games releasing a PC version earlier this year. Trails of Cold Steel II was also released for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, with a PC version also coming from XSEED Games in 2018. Trails of Cold Steel III was released for PlayStation 4 in Japan on September 28, 2017. No announcement has been made regarding a western release for Trails of Cold Steel III, the new title, or the PlayStation 4 versions of Trails of Cold Steel and Trails of Cold Steel II.
