Runic Games has announced that it closed its doors and shut down operations. Its parent company Perfect World shuttered the studio as part of a shift to development of games as a service, though Studio Head Marsh Lefler commented in an open letter that the studio is working on relocating its seventeen members. In RPG relevant news, Lefler continued to comment to Torchlight fans that all multiplayer services for Torchlight II will be available even after the door closes. There will be also be news coming soon that will reveal the future of the series.
Founded in 2008, Runic Games is best known for the Torchlight series, which consists of 2009 release Torchlight and its 2012 sequel Torchlight II. The company also released the action-adventure title Hob earlier this year.
