Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood

Square Enix kicked off this weekend's Final Fantasy XIV Fan Fest in Las Vegas by announcing the MMORPG's second expansion. Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood will be released in summer 2017, bringing the game to version 4.0. The expansion's release will see some alterations to the PC minimum specifications for the game, as well as the end of PlayStation 3 support. An upgrade campaign will let players upgrade from the PlayStation 3 version to the PlayStation 4 version for free.

In its presentation, Square Enix revealed that the expansion will focus on the city-state of Ala Mhigo, which was conquered by the Garlean Empire sometime before the game's event. The city is now ruled by the XIIth Legion Legatus, Zenos Yae Galvus. Players will join up with Ala Mhigan resistance as part of the story. While the previous expansion, Heavensward, had a significant tie-in with the Dragoon job, Stormblood will heavily involve the Monk job.

Stormblood will introduce new jobs to the game. The exact details are yet to be announced, but producer Naoki Yoshida apparently provided a hint by wearing a Scarlet Witch t-shirt. The expansion will also up the level cap to level 70 and introduce a revamped battle system and overhaul to the skill system, along with various other UI improvements and an inventory expansion.

Multiple primals, dungeons, and raids will be added and there will naturally be various new gear sets and areas. The new areas will feature various terrains, including deserts and forests. A fourth residential area for player and Free Company housing will be added, though its location is not yet confirmed. The new area known as the Forbidden Land of Eureka will provide a unique exploration experience, containing Notorious Monsters that will appear every 72 hours. More details about the expansion will be revealed in upcoming months.

Stormblood is the second expansion to Final Fantasy XIV, which was relaunched as Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn in August 2013 and is available on PC, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation 4. The MMORPG's previous expansion, Heavensward, was released in June 2015.
