Nintendo has announced a slew of news for the upcoming seventh generation of the Pokémon series, Pokémon Sun/Moon. The first revelation is the evolved forms of the starter Pokémon: Dartrix, Torracat, and Brionne.

Dartrix the Blade Quill Pokémon evolves from the owl-like Rowlet and keeps its Grass/Flying typing. As its species name implies, it conceals sharp-edged feathers in its wings and shows amazing precision when throwing them at opponents. It can even bend its feathers to change their trajectories. Dartrix cares a great deal about its appearance and spends every spare moment preening. At times it is so preoccupied by dirty or ruffled feathers that it can't focus during a battle.

The Fire Cat Pokémon Torracat is the evolved form of the Fire-type Litten. The bell-like object at its neck is actually an organ that produces flames and make a ringing sound when its releases fire. It loves to battle and it will attack its opponent relentlessly, though it sometimes acts like a spoiled child in front or its trainer or Pokémon it trusts. Torracat's forelegs are very powerful, allowing it to bend iron bars and knock out a large man in one hit.

Brionne the Pop Star Pokémon is the evovled form of Popplio. Brionne is typically a positive and cheerful Water-type, only allowing itself to show sorrow to a Pokémon or trainer it has opened its heart to. It learns to dance by imitating members of its colony and it has even been known to learn dances from humans. Brionne can dance in perfect synch with each other, especially on moonlit nights when throngs of these seal-like creatures gather.

One newly announced feature is the Festival Plaza. This place allows players to communicate with others over local wireless or the internet to battle, train, and host special missions, where multiple players work together to achieve goals. Players can also speak to people at the plaza and take on requests, which gives them Festival Coins. These coins can be spent at shops such as a dye house, stores that sell rare items, and bouncy castles for Pokémon to train in. The Festival Plaza ranks up as more coins are earned, yielding rewards for the players and making more activities available.

Another new feature is the Poké Pelago. This allows Pokémon stored in the PC to engage in various activities on several islands. The Pokémon sent to these islands can obtain items, build their strength, and meet wild Pokémon which may decide to join the trainer. The more Pokémon sent to Poké Pelago, the more facilities and additional islands are developed.

It has also been revealed that despite their absence in previous news, Mega Evolutions will return in Sun and Moon. The Z-Ring acts as the Mega Ring from previous games, though players will still have to obtain the corresponding Mega Stones from characters or special shops. No new Mega Evolutions have been announced at this time.

Lastly, a special demo version of Sun/Moon was announced. It will be available to download from the Nintendo eShop on October 18 in North America and Europe. This demo gives players a special Greninja with the new Battle Bond ability. When this Water-type causes an opponent to faint, it shifts form to Ash-Greninja, granting it enchanced speed and strength. Ash-Greninja can be transferred to the full version of Pokémon Sun/Moon, which will launch on the Nintendo 3DS on November 18, 2016 in North America and on November 23 in Europe.
