Bethesda Announces DLC and Toolset for Fallout 3

Fallout 3

Fallout 3, released on October 28 for the PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, has quickly become a contender for RPG of the year. Bethesda announced today that Fallout 3's story does not end with the retail version of the game, and some of it could even be created by RPGamers.

Starting in December, Bethesda will be releasing multiple DLC packs for Fallout 3. Unfortunately for some, this DLC will be exclusively for the PC and Xbox 360, not for the PlayStation 3. In the first DLC pack, Operation: Anchorage, which should be released next month, players will enter a military simulation to experience an important battle in the Fallout universe: the liberation of Anchorage, Alaska. The second pack, The Pitt, scheduled for release in February, will send players to an industrial raider town called The Pitt, which is located in the remains of Pittsburgh. The third pack, Broken Steel, scheduled for release in March, continues the main storyline by having players join the Brotherhood of Steel to destroy the remnants of the Enclave.

Bethesda also announced that budding designers who own the PC version of Fallout 3 will have a new toolset to work with in December. Labeled the G.E.C.K. (Garden of Eden Creation Kit), this toolset will be a free download and will allow users to edit and create nearly everything from the Fallout 3 universe, including dialogue, characters, weapons, enemies, and more. If it is anything like the toolset Bethesda released for Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, it should be quite powerful. Look for the official release date for the first DLC pack and the toolset soon.
