Final Fantasy V Advance

Final Fantasy V saw its release this Wednesday, November 8, making it the fifth Final Fantasy game to appear on the platform. Final Fantasy V originally appeared exclusively in Japan for the Super Famicom but was later included in the Playstation compilation Final Fantasy Anthology alongside Final Fantasy VI. Final Fantasy V's claim to fame is its simple yet expansive Job System with which the player can switch any playable character's job class at will, effectively tweaking the character's skills and statistics in the process. Although the Job System had been with the series since its origin, Final Fantasy V further expanded upon the idea and included 22 unique jobs to choose from.

The Gameboy Advance remake offers several new gameplay features. Most importantly, the title has received a fresh English translation in order to modernize the title. Additionally, four new jobs are now available -- Gladiator, Cannoneer, Necromancer and Prophet -- bringing the total to 26, and the graphics have been updated. Many of the enemies in battle sport newer, more polished sprites and battle backgrounds have been redrawn from the ground up. Moreover, a new 30-floor bonus dungeon has been added, inside which never-before-seen equipment can be found. Last, but not least, a new soundtrack mode has been added.

Final Fantasy V takes place in a world-hopping, vibrant setting a millenium after the Elemental Crystals were separated. The crystals contain the essence of warriors, which Bartz, Faris, Galuf, and Lenna can use to receive new powers. An evil force threatens these worlds, however, and without the power of the Elemental Crystals, impending doom is ever certain.

The game is available today at a suggested retail price of $29.99 and is rated E for Everyone by the ESRB.
