Final Fantasy XI to Break Even Soon
Final Fantasy XI

Square recently announced that its registered user subscription count for Final Fantasy XI has exceeded 190,000. The company expects that number to reach 200,000 by the end of the week. At that point, the 16 million dollar investment used to create the PlayOnline network service and develop the game will have broken even, thus allowing the company to begin earning profit on the project.

Final Fantasy XI was released in Japan in May and later in November for the PC. The game will likely be released in North America sometime next year, with a European release expected to follow in 2004.
