Final Fantasy I & II Headed to North America
Square

Square has announced its plans to localize and release the PlayStation Final Fantasy I & II remakes in North America. The company plans to have the games ready for shipment by the end of spring 2003. It remains to be seen whether the games will be sold separately or together in a compendium, as Square EA has done with Final Fantasy Anthology and Final Fantasy Chronicles.

This is the first time in 12 years that the original Final Fantasy will be available locally. Originally released on the Nintendo Entertainment System, the title will likely receive a new translation for its PS one makeover. Final Fantasy II has never been released outside of Japan until now, and it will receive its first official translation for English-speaking RPGamers to enjoy.

Both games have been completely remade for their new debut; they have been given complete, 16-bit makeovers, and they include brand new FMV sequences and newly arranged soundtracks. Check out RPGamer's coverage for Final Fantasy I & II for a look at the new graphics.
