Enix's Playstation 2 RPG Star Ocean 3 has been set for a Japanese
release of March 2002. Currently little is known about the game apart from
some sketchy, expositional details. The lead female character is named Sofia,
and the story will take place in the same universe as the previous two games, roughly
400 years after Star Ocean: The Second Story. Graphically, Star Ocean 3 will feature fully 3D characters
and backgrounds, boasting free camera rotation and full 360-degree movement.
Enix previewed Star Ocean 3 at the Tokyo Game Show but not much of the game was
shown. A playable demo was offered that allowed players to explore one town setting, though
nothing in the way of battle system or overworld presentation was revealed.
With so little known about Star Ocean 3, expect some big announcements in the coming months.
RPGamer will bring you that news as it breaks, and hopefully, an announcement of a North American
release along with it.
